  • error code and warning lights remain after rebuild and new injectors

    hi guys
I recently bought a 2010 diesel auto 150 series with a holed piston, when I bought it the Traction control, engine light were on and 4 lo was flashing (no surprise right!)
The error code it was showing was for 2 injectors prior to rebuild
I have had the engine rebuilt (short engine only) by a mates dad who is old school (has limited experience about the tech side) and had new baileys injectors fitted and coded - the engine runs great but the Traction control and engine light are still on and 4 lo is still flashing
I ran techstream and my Smart scan and get the same error code - P1601 - which on techstream says "EEPROM Error - Injector Correction Value, DPF Thermal Degrading Record.
I cleared the codes using both techstream and smart gauge - both time the traction control light would disappear and then immediately re-appear...(ie back to all warning lights on)
Any clues on what else to do? - the guy who coded the injectors tried to clear the codes as well but couldn't - the injector values look ok (attached techstream screen shot as well) -
    Inj 1 = 0.3
    Inj 2 = 0.1
    Inj 3 = 0.0
    Inj 4 = -0.8

When fitting injectors to the newer Hilux / Prado models (part number 295050-0460), you may see a fault code of P1601 after coding the injectors to the ECU.

The Baileys R & D team have determined that this is due to these vehicle models having a function called Pilot Quantity Learning, where the ECU can self-learn (forced) the pilot injection quantities, and stores this data in conjunction with the code.
This error arises because you’ve now changed the code, the ECU knows that post-factory injectors have been installed, and is detecting a conflict in the stored ‘learned’ values.

    We have the Solution
The process when changing these injectors is:
    1. Change Injectors
    2. When ready to start the vehicle, input the new injectors correction codes
    3. Start the vehicle, allow to idle until max. engine temperature is reached
    4. Using your scan tool, go to the Pilot Learning function (often found under the ‘special functions’ menu) and select RUN. When the ECU is in Pilot Learn Mode, the glow plug light on the dashboard will start flashing.
    5. At this point, you need to use the foot throttle to increase engine speed past 3000rpm (no load) and let off throttle. When the engine is in deceleration, you’ll hear ‘tick tick tick’. This is the ECU actuating an injector and watching the change in Deceleration via the speed pickup on the flywheel.
    6. Usually you’ll cycle through (rev up and let fall) around 30 times, but we’ve had some take over 100 cycles.
    7. Once completed, the P1601 fault code can now be deleted

nice one mate - now I just need to find someone with a scan tool (perth) - reluctant to take it back to the guy who installed as if he couldn't work it out then I don't have the confidence in him rectifying!
