Hi,
I have bought my Prado back in 2013 with rear ARB lockers installed. First thing I found, was that it was leaking diff oil through the compressor, so I had that fixed.
Apparently some seals had to be replaced, the parts were peanuts, but the labor was costly. Now four years later, I am getting diff oil through the diff breather when I engage the locks, so once again some seal needs to be changed, and once again I am looking at $600+ labor + peanuts for the seals. (I know I should had had electronic diff locks instead)
This time I want to do this myself, as one of these days this is going to happen to me in the bush (or during a long expedion in the middle of Siberia :-)) , and I want to be able to fix this myself (not to mention I do not have the $600), I have plenty of time, as the car is not daily driver. I have most tools.
Is this going to be difficult? I am not sure what seals I am talking about at this time (I will find out). Would I need some special and expensive tools, to change these seals. It seems like that the whole diff has to be taken apart (at least I would learn how to do that).
I do most small jobs on my Prado myself (changed the timing belt the other day), but I am bit worried about taking apart the diff, is there a potential for stuffing something up?
Thank you
