So doing the calcs:

Kerb weight: 2445kg
New GCM: 5990kg
Van: 3000kg
Towball: 300kg
GVM: 2990kg

Payload: 2990-300-2445 = 245kg

That's 3 adults with no accessories or luggage. Hmmm...

that's the big issue i have been having
the weight Toyota say my car is by the vin plate is 1995kg but the GXL is 2350kg
if you take 8 people at say 75kg as the average & fill it up your 200kg over gvm before you add tow ball weight, and that is without any gear onboard

Perhaps the brochure fails to mention a GVM increase is also included?

Anyway, right below the comment about the kakadu they show a picture of four coils and judging by the colour, polyair bags.

Show me a suitably qualified suspension engineer that recommends airbags (coil assist bags) for heavy towing...

There is no change to the GVM because they state the GCM of 5990kg. Take away the van weight of 3000kg and the GVM becomes 2990kg.

Edit: Correction. If the van weighs 3000kg and the ball weight is 300kg, then the ball weight is transferred to the vehicle. So van is 2700kg without the ball weight. 5990 - 2700 = 3290kg (GVM).

So then it's an 'on paper' towing limit (like the current crop of dual cabs) and is probably useless in the real world!

Slippery - FWIW are you able to take your rig over a weighbridge? I'd be interested to see the weight BEFORE all of the luggage, passengers and Tow ball load.

I think you were right initially and GVM remains at 2990, also it would be unusual to present the numbers that way to assume a change in GVM.

Only the approved documents can be relied up but I note that the image showing the tow capacity shows CGM at 5990 no mention of GVM.

If they missed adding in the updated GVM, then the edited calculation is correct. However the updated GVM still needs to meet the manufacturer's axle load limits - which is... (?)

I have it as 3250kg (1450 front & 1800 rear) so GVM increase (if there is any) has to be less than 3290 unless they are increasing the axle limits also.

No mine hasnt. that 3250 lines up with the axle limits - as expected.

ha! - you're still towing 2350.

Your van plates might reflect a 2,350kg ATM with a 2,130kg GTM and 250kg TBM but the GTM figure is much less important than the ATM and TBM as these are limited by the vehicle or tow bar manufacturer.

Yes, you need to deduct (or add, view dependant) the 220kg's from your GVM capacity.
