  • Best aerial for Uniden UH5060

I think I've decided on a Uniden UH 5060. My first question - does anyone have any real world experience with this unit?

My second question is a decent aerial. I'm looking at 2 at the moment. First one is from Supercheap as I have $180 worth of gift cards so this fits the budget.

The second is from a eBay package deal.

My 4wd'ing is generally slow plodding along in the Barrington Tops or beach driving (Stockton, Fraser etc) and up until now cheap hand helds have done the job. We are planning a desert trip in July with a convoy so I want the aerial to be robust enough to deal with the vibrations/corrugations. It'll be bullbar mounted.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You don't need a high gain antenna. Just a short 3dbi mounted up high will be fine.

On the roof rack? Short, as in one of the 300mm jobs?

Yes, and you don't have to worry about them breaking from the corrugations.

Just weighing in here, isn't somewhere in the middle around 6dbi good for most scenarios?
3dbi is good for shorter distances in hilly areas, but not great over long distances. 9dbi good for long and flat. 6dbi sits in the middle and is a good compromise.

problem is a 6dbi antenna mounted on the roof won't suit most people. In my real world experience a 3dbi mounted on the roof beats a 6dbi on the bullbar in all scenarios.

Yes, best of both worlds but sometimes, practicality (i.e. clearance issues) may dictate fitting the 3dbi antenna on the roof. Antenna selection will also depends on how long the convoy extends.

Hi guys, thanks very much for the info I did a heap of looking and ended up with this RFI one.

                    https://www.prestigecom.net.au/rfi-c...uhf-cb-antenna

The plan is to mount them on the roof rack.

The Aerpro got pretty bad reviews for snapping and funnily enough the Uniden got a few too although it got some very good reviews too. But everyone seemed to love the RFI brand.

                    Thanks again
