  • program new key fob

    HI

My wife has lost our second fob and I think I have managed to find one on ebay that the seller has confirmed will work. Just wondering if there are any instructions on how to re program a new smart key for a push button start prado. I have techstream if that helps.

Dealer wants $65 plus another $50 to cut the key or $680 for the lot new which just seems excessive.

    Thanks

I don't believe you can program them without some special equipment (although some locksmith websites mention that they can program them, so maybe Google them and give them a call).

Camberwell Toyota today (in Vic) quoted me $44 to program a remote (inc GST), whether I supply my own or they supply. (Prado 150 with push button start).
They quoted $383 (inc GST) for the remote, but I have purchased one off ebay (brand new and genuine after-market part) for $190.
They quoted about $80 to cut the key, which I plan to get done elsewhere.
So (all being well), I expect the exercise to cost under $300 including Toyota programming.

Given you have lost a fob, you might want to consider having both reprogrammed if possible?

I should have replied to my own thread as I worked it out.

I bought a fob off ebay that they confirmed would work.(looks like the original)

I downloaded techsteram and installed it to a laptop. I already had a OBD USB connection for the car and with this was able to reprogram both keys. Also let me turn off the annoying seatbealt beep and a few other things.

Total cost with key cut was just under $250.

Thanks for the response. I'll have to play with Techstream at some point - looks good. Key I purchased off Ebay arrived today (only ordered it yesterday!) and looks/feels like an original. I'll get Toyota to program this one ...

Thanks for the advice Nomidara. Never got around to Toyota, so programmed my own key today. Was easy.
Documenting here for others in the future ...
Purchased a new key and Techstream Cable from Ebay.
Installed onto a Windows XP computer (I used a trial copy of Windows XP, installed as a virtual machine using VirtualBox).
Installed the driver that came on the CD.
Found that Version 12 did not work - I installed version 10.30.something ... and it worked fine.
Started the software with the engine running - it detected the car details automatically.
Followed the instructions from this Youtube Video - worked exactly as described for the Prado 150 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmY-yBvYCvg

Thanks for the info, just to say that Vmware workstation 14 works well on a 64 bit windows 10 laptop running XP pro, and Techstream V12.10.019 works a treat.

Just replaced a lost fob with one of these off ebay , cost was $162 with an ebay discount voucher

Followed the youtube video posted above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmY-yBvYCvg
And programmed it with techstream, was super easy to do.
Primus 07/2009 to 2012. Prado 09/2009 to 2016. To be sure this is correct item to suite your car remote blade from your existing fob than pop it open with a blade screw driver and advise us the number stamped on circuit board. | eBay!
