  • 90 series cargo/load length? Rear seats folded/removed

    Good Afternoon

    I'm considering buying a 90 series Prado for camping purposes. Could a current owner please share with me the length of the cargo/load area when the rear seats are folded down/removed?

    If it's not *quite* long enough I may be able to build a sleeping platform and put the front seats forward for a little extra room?

    I'm thinking of sleeping in the back with the windows rolled down. I'm 6ft, my partner is a little shorter than myself.

    Thank you very much!

    Length is sufficient but she'd be a bit squeezy for width.

      Hi Ben,

      Seat folded forward and seat pushed forward = 1320mm
      Full measurement from rear of front seats to closed tail gate = 1840mm (the front seats can be pushed a little further forward though, but not centre console.
      Height = 1100mm
      Width = 1430mm

      Keep in mind it can be uncomfortable trying to sleep in the back of a car when sharing that space with someone else. A 3 man pop-up tent with blow-up mattress may prove a better alternative. When sleeping in the back of a car in winter it can be difficult to find a happy medium between allowing enough ventilation to not get cold and preventing massive condensation build-up inside.

          If you fold the 2nd row and 3rd row seats flat, the space is perfect to fit a double sized blow up mattress in. Have even slept in it without a mattress before as the back of the 3rd row seats kind of make a headrest pillow.

            This begs the question:

            Where will you put the rest of the camping gear while you sleep.

            A decent off-road camp usually entails quite an amount of camperphenalia.
            Like a cooking stove, seating, perhaps an esky and food supplies.

            Yes you can sleep in the back of a Prado, I once had 3 kids sleep there;
            but why would you want to.

            Fill all that lovely space with gear to make your camping more enjoyable
            and pitch a small tent.

            Of course if you're just trying to save the motel bill on a trip to Longreach then go for it.
            I've done that too in cars smaller than a Prado.
