  • Red button next to shift function?

    Hello,

I have a red tab/button next to the shift on my 1996 Prado TX. The button is small and has Japanese writing on it. It doesn't show up in my manual. Anyone know what it is for?

Can you shift the gear stick without your foot on the brake with the engine off? If not, its probably to release the gear selector lockout. Quite a few Automatic cars have this, so you cant accidentally pull the car out of park. My prado doesn't though. Obviously different in different countries.
