  • What kit?

My new gxl is sitting in the showroom waiting for me 🙂

I am looking for snatch straps, snatch block etc

I have read various reviews and posts from many different sites and I am still none the wiser.

I am prepared to pay good money for quality gear however I just need to hear some hopefully real word advice.

If you are going to use snatch straps you need rated recovery points. For front recovery points I like the ARB product as they have a slot rather than a hole that allows the bow shackle body to be inserted rather than the bow shackle pin. This allows for lateral movement of the shackle without strain on the pin. For the rear I use a hitch receiver and rated bow shackle which works with my tow bar. Hitch receivers can be purchased from most big name 4WD accessory companies for about $50.

For snatch straps, again, most big name rated straps will work just fine. Straps don't last forever though. After a few uses they loose their elasticity. Some of my mates and I actually use relatively cheap Hercules straps and tree protectors from 4WDsupacentre without issue.

Snatch block? You'll need and winch and if you want a winch you'll need a winch bar (bullbar). I won't even start on these items as there is a ton of info and opinion on bars etc on this forum. Having said that, I use an ARB summit bar on my 150. Still tossing up whether I need a winch or not. I drive 4WD's everyday at work, in the bush, have lots of training on recovery (including with large tankers) and have never needed to use a winch in anger (except for moving large trees off tracks or recovering someone else). Just depends how and where you want to drive.
150 GXL - ARB bar, Winch, 9" spots, rhino rack, 32" LED bar, Snorkel, 2" lift, AT's, Dual batts, UHF, 40L fridge, KAON cargo barrier - rear door table

If you are a beginner, just get a 8000kg snatch strap and 2 bow shackles. A recovery point at the front and a tow bar. That is all you need to start off with.
