  • Prado 150 KDJ 3.o lt diesel coolant

    I am looking for information concerning replacement of the coolant in my 2012, Prado 150 3.0L diesel. Supercheap have a members special on on Wednesday night and I see Nulon will be on special. Any information on whether I should stick to genuine Toyota or go with Nulon red or green would be appreciated. From past experience I assume the genuine would be several times more expensive, but if that is needed then I guess I should go that way. Brian DJ

    On mine I went with Toyota, the reason being if all old coolant not gotten out, at least it would be the same.
    Not a mixture that might cause a contamination reaction between different coolants

        The most important things, in my opinion, when it comes to servicing and longevity of your vehicle, is engine oil, oil and air filters, and engine coolant. Fortunately, you are not correct bacdj, when you assume that genuine coolant is several times more expensive than non genuine coolant. I had a 2010 3.0 liter prado, and around 150,000 km my diesel fitter specialist replaced my timing belt, but we also did the water pump at the same time. I had only ever used genuine toyota coolant, and the water pump etc still looked like new, with no sign of corrosion. I agree with cmilton, stick with the same, the toyota coolant appears to be very good quality. Be sure to drain the radiator as well as the engine block and flush it well, but for me, i'd only use the genuine toyota coolant to avoid any cross contamination issues and possible corrosion issues etc. Sure, the after market stuff all has information on what is compatible with what other coolants, and I do use a slightly cheaper aftermarket coolant in my kids 18 year old corolla, and I'm sure its just as good, but for the Prado, honestly, i'd just stick with the genuine coolant...which from memory gets replaced somewhere around 150,000 km and at around 80,000 km after that...(or whatever the book says with regards to years), and depending on whether you tow heavy loads or so lots of off road driving etc, in which case it might be more frequently. Genuine coolant is the go....IMHO

          Fully concur with what brogers is saying.

          Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (do not use Toyota Red coolant concentrate as it is not the same formulation!) needs to be replaced every 80,000 kms after the first replacement at 150,000 kms.
