  • High Idle

    Hi all,
I've noticed a high idle and my battery doesn't seem to be charging properly in my 2.7lt Prado. It has been sitting around for a few months but has a new battery in it, I also changed the belts too, would that make any difference?
Would it be the alternator? It seemed to charge when I started it and idled for 10 mins, but then I went for a drive and noticed my battery sensor was red instead of green.
    Can anyone help?

If the battery light was glowing red then the alternator or regulator isnt putting out enough voltage. Are the belts properly tight? Worth getting it checked.

Are you talking a battery sensor as in the little coloured circle on the battery? Or a light on the dash?
If it's been sitting for a while it's probably low in voltage. Have you tested it with a multimeter?
If so what reading sitting to voltage running?
It may just be flat and need a good run to charge it.

Thanks mjrandom, the belts are properly tight. Oh it's the duel battery sensor that's reading 11.7 (red)instead of 14.1(green). Cheers

Thanks Piggy it's the light on my dash for the duel battery. It's reading 11.7 instead of 14.1. It's a new battery and they tested it at super cheap.
I took it for a 50km drive the other day in the country so it should be charged I would of thought.
Am I able to drive it without the battery going flat?
Will the battery die when I'm driving?
          Cheers

              Ok, Will do.
Is there any way I can test/check the duel battery system myself? I'm guessing I'll need a multimeter.

Check what voltage is at the cranking battery with the engine off and running but most autoelectricans, battery world etc will check for nothing
