  • Trouble finding electric trailer brake controller harness

    Hello,

I am in Canada and it is hard to get part identification #s for my 96 Prado TX. Can anyone give me a part # for an electric trailer brake controller harness that would fit my Prado? None of the manufacturers I've contacted have listings for a 96 Landcruiser or 4Runner. Thanks

In Aus we run our own wiring for the brake controller, haven't heard of a factory harness or even a generic version.
The controller will come with the wiring diagram and it's not a difficult job.
Main thing is to ensure you have a decent sized ground wire at the trailer plug.
Some plugs such as the 12-pin flat will have a large gauge ground wire specifically for items like the electric brakes, fridge etc as well as a "normal" sized ground for the usual trailer lights.
Whereas the 7-pin round plug only runs one ground pin which must do the work of brakes and the trailer lighting. It's difficult to fit a large ground wire in the tight confines of the 7-pin.
