Hi all,
I have a niggling issue which I have had trouble solving, so has Toyota and my local mechanic. It goes like this....
Running car from cold start, everything is completely fine. After a time driving to running temp, say about 15 to 30 minutes, I stop the car at the shops or at home. I leave for about 10 minutes and come back to start. The idle is rough, and upon accelerating the vehicle shudders but doesn't stall. It smooths out if opening up the throttle more but still noticable and the car makes a "spluttering" sound. If I cool down by leaving for at least an hour, problem goes away.
So far, I have replaced the coils, had the injectors cleaned (by Toyota) and I used electrics cleaning spray to clean the MAF sensor, but the problem stays. Any ideas about what to check/replace next. I am getting sick of throwing money at the problem and nobody can tell me what it might be. It is definitely as a result of heat soak affecting a sensor, or some part in the engine bay. No lights are thrown and no codes are spat out on diagnosis. The mechanic and Toyota said they can't fault it, but I don't think they drove it about to get it really warm to find out, they seem to have only idled it.
I was thinking about replacing the MAF sensor, could this be heat affected but run normally from cold start if failing? Can a MAF sensor slowly falter? It doesn't feel like a spark plug issue, it doesn't feel like an injector problem? It also doesn't feel like a vapour lock?
Thoughts? It's really frustrating.
