Yes and yes if you are likely to cross water. Have a search on here for a few threads on it as well as photos. Diffs are easy but gearbox and transfer case requires a bit of contortion but doable if you follow the instructions found on this site.
Not sure what the links above show but if you have a look at the back of the engine you will see the front diff and trannie etc breathers already come up to there. If you get water in them from there I think you have more to worry about.
I have only extended the rear with some oil resistant hose and ran it up to the fuel filler pipe to get it high out of the way.
The rear diff is the biggest issue and also the easiest to extend.
On the 2.8s the front is alreast fairly high.
Gearbox and transfer are harder and I didn't do myn, we had a trip to Tassi a few years back non of the Prados had the transfer or box breathers done and non had any water ingress issues. One of the guys did have his tans oil changed afterwards and no sign of water, if you were to get water ingress this trip would have been at the top of the list never seen so much water lol.
But there were the 5 Spd auto box not the current 6spd
Each to there own if you can do the transfers/ box breathers why not.
