  • Yellow top D34 vs SSB HVT70

    Torn between battery options for my auxiliary to be mounted in the engine bay.

    Considering Yellow Top D34 as recommended by many ($313.64 @ cheapies atm)

    Very tempted by the SSB HVT 70D as I get more amp hours (85) for less ($265 @ local atm)

    Does the faster charge rate of the optima outweigh the higher AH and cheaper price of the SSB?

    What's your experience and recommendations and why? Is there another I should be considering?

    What is your expected usage?

    How are you planning to charge the battery? DCDC or Isolator?

    A light user could take either the DCDC or Isolator path - a heavy user that doesn't do very long drives between recharges would very likely lean towards the isolator and Optima option...

    Be aware that the SSB battery has a max recharge current of 23.8amp and regular rate of 8amps so that probably rules out Alternator/Isolator charging.

    The Optima does recharge very fast on an alternator, one of the fastest around i'm lead to believe.
