Cheap spare 2nd wheel from a 90 series Hilux?

Hi folks,

Hopefully a simple question, Im looking at getting a cheap 2nd spare wheel for my 120 series diesel prado. Its only a "just in case" 2nd spare for a longer road trip (blacktop) I'm making next week.

Does anyone know if the below wheels, off a 90 series Hilux would fit the Prado?

I think from memory you have to grind part of the front brake calipers off to get the 90 series rims to fit a 120 so probably not something your insurance company would be happy with in the case of an accident, but I know it has been done.

Cheers Rainman, yeah certainly something I'm not keen on doing either.

Any other cheap options possible? 120 series spares are running between $120-$200 from what I've seen.

I picked up a spare for my 150 from the GC for 100 bucks. Pretty cheap IMO for a fairly pristine rim with a tyre that had plenty of life left in it.

Unfortunately no such luck down south like that Atherton. Ill keep my eyes out, but cant find anything similar here.

The 16 will fit on the back if you are prepared to swap around wheels if you get a front puncture. Check the offsets. Don't go for more positive offset (P 30 is stock, don't get P31 or more). Keep overall tyre diameter as close to your other tyres as possible.

Legend, thanks mjrandom! Its only for a spare, spare. So if I need it happy to do the swap around and put it on the back.

Are you running 265/65 17? If yes then that tyre is too big, 25-30mm bigger in diameter.

You need to fill in the actual numbers...

I cannot remember for sure but I think those steel 90 rims were 16x7 P30 so ok for fitment. Andrew's post here suggests the same size for the alloy 90 wheel.

So depends what tyres you are running, if stock at 265/65 17 then you need 265/70 16 if you have 265/70 17 then this one is ok.

Make sense? You might be able to pick up a 70 profile tyre for not much if you need one.
