check amayama for new shafts. Ive heard the aftermarket shafts don't have as good range of motion as genuine.

When my boot let go (stock height, rubber went hard), I disassembled and inspected it - there was very very minor signs of wear in the surface hardening so I cleaned it up and put it back as I didnt have time or a spare. Got an aftermarket shaft as spare which I got cheaply, so far haven't had to use it.

So ppl rate the repco gsp shafts?

Always keen to try amayama. Is there an easy way to determine part numbers ?

Have used GSP in the past, they produce shafts for a lot of vehicle manufacturers. CBC also stock them I believe, worth checking the price so you don't get R.E.P.C.Off'ed. Did I read somehwhere that REPCO have 30% off parts this weekend?

I'll come back to you later tonight with details on the $115 one I bought. It's got 6 ribs on the inner and I'm happy with the quality of it.

I got mine from Auto Parts Direct 2U. It's a DTA branded CV shaft. 2 yrs/40,000km warranty. They claim on their website to only have had 4 warranty claims in 5 years. Don't know how true that is. But I was genuinely impressed with the quality of the one I bought from them. Yeah $900 for a genuine cv shaft is a rip. If you can replace it cheaply yourself in your own garage then you could buy quite a few cheaper ones to the cost of one genuine.

I replaced mine myself for the first time a short while ago and it really was quite a simple process. There'd be a few new tools you'd need but when compared to the labour you'd pay a mechanic to replace a cv shaft or two for you, some or most of the tools would pay for themselves. A $50 750mm breaker bar made it easier to crack that axle nut loose.

            Thanks Brett.

i'm probably capable myself but most likely will pay someone to ensure it's done right first time.. also as I'm casually employed a day off work (family situation won't allow a full day on weekends) to do the job costs me also...

those DTA ones are now listed at 150 and that cheap scares me. the 250-300 GSP ones feel like a safer bet (though there probably the same).

I'll have a chat to a couple workshops on Tues.
