  • Cargo Barrier Install

    Hi Guys/Gals
Just bought a toyota cargo barrier of Ebay which i pick up monday. Bit of a "quick decision" buy as it was a good price but normally i do the homework so i know a little about the product - but not this time.

Toyota has quoted me $220.00 to install :?: :?: which surprised me unless there is a lot more in "installing" than i thought :!: hence this how to inquiry.

Ebay picture show the barrier with 4 arms but no nuts or bolts supplied.

Anyone installed one of these? Easy job or do i need the pro's?

Any drilling involved or does it us excisting pionts?

Do you need a "mounting kit" of some sort and description?

As always with me pictures would be a great help ops:

    Thanks in advance

If the Toyota barrier is anything like the Milford barrier, then yes you do need to get the drill out and yes you do need a mounting kit. If you PM me your email address, I can send you a pdf file of the Milford fitting instructions which will give you a good idea of what is involved. It did take me about 2-3 hours to do the install. Does the $220 from Toyota include the fitting kit?

    Cheers - Byrnsie

      saftey net

Guys, if anyone is interested i had a Milford safety net installed yesterday, this is no cargo barrier but it will allow me to pack the back of the car higher without any thing falling through, it attach's at the top of the roof and then pulls down to the floor, the net runs from just below the top of the seat to the roof, when you are not using it it pops off with two twist and turn nobs, a bit like taking out a light globe and then you just fold up and put it away until next time. It is good that u can use it for travelling but when home and need to use the third row seats it takes two minutes to get it out and fold up.

I just did the same thing. It cost me $110 to buy the cargo barrier and second hand and $180 to get some one to install it for me as I didn't have time to do it my self.(going on holiday the next weekend)
The install kit was between $90 to $120 depending who you rang and comes with all the temp plates.
I'm very happy with it and it only take a few minutes to remove if you need to install the rear seats.Toyotas price was the most expensive, try a after market place in you area as the toyata one is made buy milford.I found a mobile service guy who did a great

        Good luck

Thanks Byrnsie for he fitting instructions - much appreciated.

Not much in the fitting kit for the cost involved but hey why should that not surprise me :!:

Toyota price includes kit and fitting so thats my bench mark price so far. ARB has declined to fit (saying its to difficult :?: ) but will supply the fitting kit for $81.00.

Awaiting on the Milford distributor up here to get back to me on monday, plus picking up the barrier and then shall go from there.

          Thanks for the replies.

Cargo barrier behind folded 2nd seat?

            Hi guys
I've currently got the toyota (Milford) cargo barrier installed behind the 2nd seats as pictured...

            [img][/img]

Can anyone tell me, can it be installed behind the folded up 2nd seats? as in here?
            [img][/img]

            ????

Has anyone removed this small rectangular "patch" on the passenger pillar? Could a cargo barrier be bolted in here?

            [img][/img]

Thanks in Advance. I am not very technically minded ops:

                2nd seat decline

                Hi Rob.
Yes, it will go back a little bit. I have sat in the back and was able to decline it a little from the vertical to make it perfectly comfortable - and the kids have never had any complaints.

The main draw-back of a cargo barrier is I can't send the kids over the back of their seats to fetch beer from the Waeco anymore :P

                  Thanks simmo

Solution to your can problem: Cut small hole in cargo barrier big enough for can to be put through. Before you head off on trip place one child in the rear next to waeco so he or she can pass can through to a second child in the back seat. The second child passes can to the wife who can open it for you whilst you watch your dvd in the front.

                  regards Rob

                      Hi Simmo

My understanding is that Milford / Toyota versions are single position only cargo barriers. I went for an Ausguard dual position cargo barrier as shown below.

I have only moved it to the forward position once as it is an awkward job due to the width of the barrier. Note the folding mounting extensions on the floor and the upper mounting points attached to the grab handles. There are another set of upper mounting points above the centre row grab handles as well.

Like you I’m in Orange so PM me if you want to see the difference between the two cargo barriers.

                        Mike,
How does the Ausguard compare in price with the Milford?
It looks pretty good in your photos, and the extra value of being able to move it behind the front seats would be a real bonus

I am getting the "Ausguard" barrier fitted this friday at their HQ in Blacktown, Sydney. I was quoted $425 fitted. They have to drill two holes in the floor but the rest is attached to the grab handles etc.

I have a VX with the rear A/c and air bags and I could only find Milford and Ausguard have the approved barriers for this model.

Just a note, that I was quoted $604 fitted, for exactly the same barrier by one of the leading 4x4 accessories outlets in Sydney. Go figure!!
