  • Re: D.I.Y Windscreen wiper jets upgrade

I REALLY hate this website....it costs me too much money!!!! Found this thread at about 10pm last night, this is one mod I haven't done. Therefore, today being Sunday, I can't order any jets today, BUT the existing jets are already popped out of the bonnet and just sitting there, ready for the new ones when I go and order them tomorrow.....BTW, that cable tie trick worked a treat!!

Well, a grand total of $49.50 ( and they had them in stock too ) and literally 3 minutes work and you can see the difference. ( This pic was taken about 1.5 mins into the conversion - only the right one done!! )

Another satisfied customer!!! If only all mods were this cheap - I could afford another house!!

        Hi Guys,

I did the conversion the other day. 2 minute job and $50 later there was a world of difference. Thanks for a great and potentially safer mod.

        Cheers

          Conversion done. Great result.

Just under $40 from Southside Toyota in Brisbane, picked them up on a recent trip to Oz.

Using the cable tie to remove the originals worked perfectly, no need to get in under the bonnet liner, job done in about five mins!

I notice the profile of the Hilux ones is slightly larger - does this mean the drag coefficient has increased ?

I have just ordered my new jets from Mr.T. looks like a job for the weekend. I have to say that when I first saw my Prado water jets, it was like a trip down automotive memory lane!

Had a go at this - only broke one of the clips holding the sound proofing on the bonnet - not too bad really.

This may have been mentioned before - I might have missed it in the thread - But just a small point to help when removing the originals and keep them intact without breaking them. I guess I like to have lots of spares around the place.

On the bonnet up near the windscreen you will see a hole - ideally placed to put in a small flat screwdriver to push up the rear lug on the washer jet. First, push the front lug free with a screwdriver, gently lever up, then push the rear lug off using a flat screwdriver going up thru the hole and then remove the washer jet intact - leave the hose attached. Pull it all through then remove the washer jet, replace with the hilux jet, push back into place.

Thanks PP's great idea and works well.

It certainly pays to shop around - I enquired price and availability for these at one Brisbane Westside Toyota dealer and was quoted $63.00. Passed on that one and later that day happened past a near central Brisbane dealer.

Same part number - $40.00. They'll go in this weekend.

                    Cheers,

Did mine the other week, nice upgrade, $40 as well.

I took mine out thru the top, inserted a very fine flat blade screwdriver at the front of the jet between the rubber and the jet, no chance of scratching this way, came out easily, then just insert screwdriver the same at rear, easiest job ever, took < 2 mins.

I did it the other day. It was a pain in the ass. The best solution was to remove the rubber seal under the washer to have more clearance and place a rag on the bonnet and with a blunt blade etc press on the tabs. If you have trouble removing the rubber seal, you can get some pliers and rotate the washer 90 deg.

The end result is you don't even have to pop the bonnet. Just hang onto the hoses before putting on the new washer (as someone else has stated before). Test the washer before installing...

Just installed the washer upgrade and as previously stated didnt even remove the under bonnet protection...

JUST REMEMBER HOLD ONTO THE HOSE FOR THE WASHER.

only took 3 mins ..Thanks again for the previous people's insight and modifications to help out others...
