Does anyone know how MUMSRIG's set has fared over the last five years??? MUMSRIG, are you out there??? Has anyone else used MDF and in a position to tell how they stand up to the test of time. I intend to house some pretty heavy gear in my drawers, recovery kit, drag chain, and stuff like that.

If you ever get stuck in a river crossing and your interior gets wet, say bye-bye to MDF. Marine ply would be the go. Or normal ply and a generous amount of varnish/sealant.

      • How has everyone fitted their drawers to the floor on a 150 and avoided the power cables being run across the back of the floor? Also, is there any way to cover up the exposed plastic on the D pillars like the outback brand does?

        Thanks

            • Had a few family dramas of late so progress has been slow. Almost finished and a couple of updated photos are attached. Will post an installed photo/s in next few days. All up cost about $600. Major costs were drawer runners $200 (bottom fit 3mm steel), Ply $110, Carpet $90, Glue $40, T Handles $84.

              Cheers

              • Hi I am planning to build some drawers myself and am wondering what thickness marine ply to use. I see alot of you use 15mm and as I want to keep weight down was wondering if anyone has used 12mm and if so how strong did it turn out. I will go to the 15mm if I have to but don't see the point if 12mm will do fine. I did ask the plywood supplier in town who seemed to think 12mm would be fine. Suggestions please.

That is a really nice job.

You should be proud of yourself for that effort.

I used 12mm for the bottom and sides - 15mm seemed like overkill and far too heavy. I used MDF for the top - I think that was 15mm though but not as heavy as ply. I made the drawers themselves from 12mm as well. I put quite a bit of weight in them (tools recovery gear etc) with no problems.

                        Hope that helps.

                        • I've read through lots, but not all the posts on draw systems but haven't seen anyone mention what they now do about accessing their car jack if and when they need it?

Do you re-locate it somewhere else or use an aftermarket jack
                          Cheers, Leon

Often wondered the same thing Snaga. I am assuming most of the wings on these setups are hinged or removable allowing for "reasonable" access to the Jack compartment?, Or, store the Jack in a drawer....

As Craig has suggested I have lift up (hinged) wings on the sides of mine - gives me extra storage plus easy access to the factory jack. I have my compressor attached to the side of the drawers on the right side as well.

                              • Ok, so here's as close as I get get down on paper as to what's in my head...
It's based on my needs for my carrying camera gear and lighting for work so on the RHS will go my two lighting bags and up top will be my light stand bags and camera bags. (with cargo barrier to keep things in check)
LHS is the Engel fridge slide with Waeco fridge on it.

The draws are an addition to what I had in my 90 series...

It will sit higher than the 90 system, 700mm from base to top shelf (roughly the top of the middle seat headrest of the 2nd row seats)

Can anyone see any issues with where I'm heading with this? I'll need to take into account access to the jack and side areas so maybe I'll do some wings on the top shel to take it to the edge of the car.
                                Cheers, Leon
