  • Overhead Roof Console

G'day, thought I would put up some pictures of the roof console I made.

It's made from 9mm plywood and retains the original sun-glass holder and both interior lights.

The total cost was less than $150 including a dual battery gauge and having it cover professionally ($80)

      Very nice,
DIY is the better option considering the price you pay for a plastic one.

Mate, that is a brilliant job!

I've started making my own too... however I've got an unfair advantage as I bought one from department of interior originally.

A roof console is such a great mod.

Thanks Steve, I made these (3) a few months ago and I didn't keep the template. But they are not that hard to make, just a lot of time getting everything right. Getting the curve for the sunglass holder was probably the fiddlest. Once the first one was made the other two did take that long at all.

Looks good, I too have made a start on one of these, need more time to get it finished though. How did you attach it to the roof?

            Cheers Andrew

Most vehicles attach using holes in the original light fitting cut outs ( once light is removed )

The 150 doesn't have these so you have to put holes in the roof lining sadly.

How do I remove the over head console on a 150 series PRADO? It's the console where the map lights and sunglasses holder is! Thanks guys

                  Hey Terry,
Do you have any tips for running cables/wires up for the radio/lights etc?

All you need is a short piece of plastic strip or wire about 1m lonf For the roof from memory I had to run the cable about 100mm from the edge running along the windscreen. I was easy thou

I run all the cables and wiring up behind the passenger side A pillar. Be careful if your Prado has airbags in the pillar.
