  • DIY recovery points

went down to the local tjm store to buy some outback ideas recovery points and nearly fell over when he told me the price $ 120. i went back home and had a look in the shed and found some flatbar 100mm x 12mm and decide to make me own mounts, took me an hour to knock up and they turned out pretty good. i will mount them and get some photos

They look good Samo. Us NOVOCASTRIANS are a good breed hey!!

You'll have to drop into Des's Humble Pie one day as say hi to my Uncle Des!!!

You also need to paint the recovery points RED and everyone will think they are expensive jobbies!

Just watch the clearance on the radiator with your bolts when you install them and you will have to drill out the top hole to half inch as well.

Me too ! nothing tight about it samo .

If you can spend an hour and knock them up yourself , its an hour well spent .

$120 for a hours work is a bloody good rate

        Nice job mate !

EDIT : i just had a look to see where they go , and realised i have 2 heavy duty ones fitted already when they put the winch bar on ops:

          Hi all
Does anyone know whether you can fit those outback recovery hooks
if you have ARB fitted as my bar has no recovery points fitted. I have
heard you can retro fit some points on does anyone know whats involved in this.

          cheers

Winch mounts, don't snatch off them otherwise the nice circles will become oval shape

What i have found out was the early 120 ARB bars were not fitted with
                recovery points .

                cheers

Well they definately have now .

I never noticed them before until i looked tonight . i have the standard ones horizontal , then the HD ones that were fitted with the bar next to them vertical .

Mine are about 15mm thick steel .... surely snatching off them wouldnt do any damage ?

.... IMO pulling longways on this lug all day isn't going to do any damage

Ask ARB, this topic has been done to death on multiple 4x4 forums, they are winch points not snatch.

I emailed ARB to get clarification on this, they responded with a phone call and said that it is a rated recovery point and i can snatch off them.

He said they first model bar for the 120 you couldn't but around 2004 that was fixed.

I also asked if they had something on paper to show me but his reply was no.

                          Hi all

I also have confirmation from the ARB (the store ithat fitted) and now ARB corp that they are rated for both winching and snatching (in an email from them!!! ;-))

"the ARB deluxe bar for the Prado is rated ,for both winching & snatching. This is not the case for all vehicals, but for the Prado it is. "

                          Hope this helps!

                          Cheers

A pict says 1000 wrong words

I was under the impression the veritcal "additional ARB bar" ones could be used with a shackle as a snatch point.

Pict: Left hand side ARB winch bar tow hooks vertical. Orginal toyota 'tow hooks' horizontal.
