I have 03 GXL with factory winch bar. Long story but the previous owner in his wisdom removed the winch and mounts and installed it on his new 04 GXL when he traded up. I believe it was the "factory" Superwinch X9. While I'd like to get a new bar, the $ involved mean that I can either wait for the unfortunate outcome of a roo or other hard object to do it or fit up the winch and move on.
My questions for those of you with factory bars and winch are:
If you have the X9, where does the control box mount? Inside the bar or on top? Every time I see one, I can't run alongside to check them out but it doesn't seem they are on top but instead the hand control plugs into the box, with the control box mounted with only the plug socket exposed on the bars top face (hard to describe).
Does anyone have any other brand, Warn, Repco, Premier whatever fitted to the factory bar? I've looked at the measurements and some are the same mount points as Superwinch but the clutch release increases overall height inside the bar and may be the obstacle as well as the fairlead roller backing plate and mount point. I've heard that the Repco 9000lb fits but the clutch release is hard to get to. I'm assuming you have to raise the bonnet to get into the control box and release.
Appreciate anything you guys can tell me.
Andrew
