you definently wont get HF and UHF in one unit, HF uses 3-30Mhz at 100watts and UHF 477Mhz at legal max of 5watts, one radio just can not work that far apart. The uniden unit sold a while ago 27Mhz CB and UHF was actually to two radios in one case, you can only use one at a time and still needed to install two ariels.
The choice of HF or Sat phone will be personal, do a bit of reserch on the net, check out the VKS737 web site, thats the 4wd network for the HF and has lots of info.
I am actuly looking for a HF set at the moment as I hope to do a bit of traveling atleast once a year and it should last longer than a sat phone.
