    toyota genuine hayman reece
Isn't this two different tow bars?

Toyota genuine one goes through the bar (bolts to cross member, hole cut in bar)

Hayman Reece one bolts under the bar, across the chassis rails.

I may have the Hayman Reece one mistaken for another brand though

      Toyota tow bar

Just went through the process of researching and fitting a tow bar. The Tojo bar that bolted to the pressed steel crossmember didn't look right to me. It's not really a "bar" but a hitch piece/block. Went to another tow bar shop and they quoted a Hayman Reese, which bolts on in a similar manner. Smaller bumper cutout though. Went to local Wynnum Towbar shop. His bar is totally different. It bolts to chassis rails, AND to the Tojo pressed crossmember. No bumper cutout. Is a proper "bar"

Very happy with it. A high quality bar well fitted. I'm sure he would send out.

thanks for the instructions Chippy, here tis.

          Note no bumper cutout

The attachment immediately in front of the tow ball is my "couple mate" that I already had. A great gadget that has saved my marriage I suspect.

            Thanx for the pics....

What's it rated too? same as Toyota one?

            What's the dollars?

My only concern is it looks like you'd plow a field with it off road...

Towbar is rated to the capacity of the vehicle 2500kg.

cost is $500.supplied and fitted (including rear relay box) This is $25 more than one price and $10 more than another.......but they were (IMHO) lesser bars.

Any towbar pretty well stuffs your departure angle. If you want to do the really knarly stuff you probably won't be towing. So I look at how much the angle is affected if the tongue is removed. Compared to the Tojo bar, there's nothing in it. This bar is about 10mm lower than Tojo "bar" but does not extend as far. =>No difference to departure angle. If you really want to see a plow check out the latest model Pajero with a tow bar.

One of the main reasons to go for this arrangement was my plan to tow a van in the future of around the 2000kg tare mark. I am advised that with load levellers fitted there may be an issue with the toyota bar after a time. :?:

If I can add my ten cents worth here.... I have the toyota bar which I use to tow a Jayco campervan (approx 1000kg.) I have never had a problem with the construction of the bar or leaving it behind in the dirt when off road. The problem I have encountered is the shape of the tongue is a circular shape which does not allow you to use tow leveller bars and a bike rack wont sit on it with any degree of stability either. In comparing the mounting points btw the toyota and hayman reece the HR bar appears much stronger. With the wonderful thing of hindsight I would have gone the hayman reece bar . Cheers

The Toyota mount will accept a standard 50mm tonge. This maybe a fix for the toyota tonge not working well with load levellers and bike racks. With my last car (Forester XTL) I bought a second tongue for my bike rack, as there was a storage spot in the cat but wouldn't fit with the bike mount on it.

I have checked to see if the std 50mm tongue fits for my bike rack tongue and my father also has a second tongue for his Jayco, as it has an off-road hitch fitted.

But as always seek professional advice.

Yes the hayman reece tongue will go into the toyota bar but I was advised that if something should go wrong when you are towing and you have a "made up" tow bar (ie toyota tow bar with a hayman reece tongue) it might just be enough for your insurance to be waived !!

                      Re: toyota tow bar

I have a question in relation to the genuine Toyota tow back which is, does it come with any u bolts. I had the tow bar fitted from new about 4 weeks ago and there were no u bolts supplied. i have had a few new cars fitted with factory tow bars over the years and all of them have had u bolts as part of the tow pack.
                      Thanks

I have installed quite a few Prado Tow Bars & other genuine Toyota bars & normally they don't come with shackles for the safety chains

                          Regards Don
