We were looking at one from Queensland and one from Ferntree gully, Melb but the price difference was good. I also felt I could tailor this to my needs more if I had a clean slate to work on.
The one thing I thought odd was that whilst a good off road trailor, it didn't come with a treg or similar hitch - just the old 50mm ball type.
We did the same thing. Purchased the 12' tent component off eBay for just over a grand delivered and had the trailier built locally to my specs.
All up it was under $5000 on the road with 3x 17" Prado alloys, Tregg hitch 5x7 off road trailer with heavy duty suspension, extra long draw bar (so the Prado gate opens with the trailer attached),gas bottle holders etc, etc...
Very happy with the finished product and it's bloody huge..
Hey buddy, if you dont mind, can you put up some links for you tent and trailor manufacturer. As Im putting together a proposal for the Mrs haha. If I can get a purpose 4wd trailor and tent for around 5k I will be happy as a pig in poo. Always good to have options
You'll have to navigate through to camper trailer tents, under tents.
If I were you I'd get a trailer made to spec. Mine has bars along the side for strength but it means as it is you can't put gas rings or jerrys or anything on the side.
I'm going to have to modify it substantially once I get a welder...and time. It'll do at the moment though. It is a strong trailer. I was lucky the track is the same as the prados however it has std 5 nut wheels which will have to be changed to prado ones at some stage as well. I'll probably do that once I have a lot more weight on the trailer and want to get electric brakes.
All in all, it's a good starting point, if you can afford an extra grand or two, definately get the trailer made for your purposes. The tent's fine IMO.
