Anyone want pink MAXTRAX? I have some and assume Brad has some in Australia. I will post up some pics soon.

I brought mine at easter... Probably the best piece of recovery gear i own! Makes those situations where you would either have hours of digging or putting other 4x4's under strain by snatching almost disappear (for sand driving anyway) $275 from SCA

I have a mate who has a set, he reckons they are crap, I reckon my Maxtrax are the best thing since sliced bread. Haven't seen the XTRAX being used, only going on what my mate told me.Originally posted by Lorenzo View PostHas anyone tried the Bushranger version of maxtrax? http://www.bushranger.com.au/x_trax_ii.php
They seem pretty much the same but $100 cheaper... Saw them at ARB yesterday while I was picking up the rig after the lift

Guest repliedI think the X Trax is a different design in that it can be rolled up. This makes it less effective than a rigid board design like the Maxtrax in that the rear end of the Maxtrax can continue to dig into the ground as the car is being powered out of the bogging. The entire board also grips down onto the ground once the weight of the tyre is on it. The X Trax will likely slide under the tyre and may wrap around it.
Note: This is only what I think based on what I see. I have not done a comparison test between the Maxtrax and the X Trax. YMMV.
Edit: looks like KAKADAZ replied already while I was typing my reply. Good to see that a comparo was done already.

I read a magazine that had the Maxtrax vs The XTrax and the Xtrax were not rated very highly....after the front tyres rolled them up and spat them out it left no track for the rears to run on...They said they were very hit and miss and the Maxtrax were well worth the extra $$$..Originally posted by Lorenzo View PostHas anyone tried the Bushranger version of maxtrax? http://www.bushranger.com.au/x_trax_ii.php

Certainly is cheaper to go with the maxtrax mtg units (lockable too). I think I'll go with them. I had a look at these at BCF on the weekend and the mtg pins are 10mm all the way through which will be fine. As you have recommended, to keep secure just weld the thread to the angle...

Pricing is:
M10 $7.50
M12 $8.50
It's a bit steep, I think, compared to the Maxtrax mtg kits. You could just buy the mtg kit and weld the thread onto your angle and be done with it.

Just thinking about it, I may source a length of aluminium angle and find someone with a mig.Last edited by craigm; 15-06-2011, 12:14 AM.

Guest repliedIt's a bit hard to say. The vibrations the Prado will induce is the big unknown. I don't even know where to start. Best bet is to use 4mm material and either gusset it or fix it to the top rail of your basket. Might as well over engineer it for longevity (as long as you have the weight left to over engineerOriginally posted by craigm View PostI measured the holes in my matrax this morning and they are a bees d#*k less than 20mm so I will go the m12 which as you said amts, will provide more meat to drill a hole through for a locking solution. Amts, what thickness bar would you recommend for this, given that I need to angle it approx 70 degrees and cope with vibration when loaded up with (potentially) 4 matrax?

Fitting Maxtrax to roof rack
Well after buying my Maxtrax the other week thought I'd mount them to the ARB roof rack, problem was the rack needed to be widened(10mm). So out with the grinder, drilled a couple of big holes n a couple of s/s bolts with retaining clips n a couple of long lockwood padlocks, all good. If they can get them off from there they can have em.
