Re: Maxtrax
Out prospecting the other week after some fairly decent rainfall. Came across a typical "creek" - almost a metre deep, about 1.5 metres across with a fairly steep entry and exit. There was no moving water but it was pure slop.
Dropped the maxtrax onto the flat mud section and simply drove across using them to prevent the wheels going down into the bog. You don't have to wait until you get stuck before you use them.
Worked a treat and christened the maxies in the process.

Re: Maxtrax
I Bought a set 2nd hand form the for sale forum here, brand spankers in a carry bag, I highly recomend the carry bag as it keeps all the crap out of the vehicle. Iwent across the Simpsom desert with 2 other vehicles the hard way (2 convoys of 6 & 8 vehicles & 1 group of 2 turned back because the dunes were to big & steep) let the tyres down to 15 psi & used the maxtrax about 4 times during the trip, made life so much easier & saved a lot of time digging, so more time for beers, mmmm buts thats another thread

Always better to have something and never need it than to not have something and totally depend on it. 8)Originally posted by OldGreyGuyI'm hoping that my experience is like yours. If it is the $295 was well spent.Originally posted by BankruptI'm beginning to think these Maxtrax are a good luck charm rather than a good piece of kit.

They've done 17K, a trip round WA, Lancelin Dunes, the beach x 50 times and they're still spankers!!!
Might have to sell em so I can experience getting bogged!

Re: Maxtrax
thats it...still has to follow the direction of travel but doesnt have to be any where near flat or even level.
Made the trucks pop up like a jack in the box, very easy to use and brilliant when stuck.

Re: Maxtrax
I was passing UV4x4 at Enoggera last Friday and they did not have stock but was advised that they were expecting some in, they called me this morning and advised that they had received stock at both Enoggera and Brendale, so new stock seems to be coming in.Originally posted by IRON-PAWWWas in a 4x4 place on Saturday and overheard some people asking about Maxtrax. Store guy said the factory had temporarily ceased production because the guy behind it all was in hospital????? Said that nobody knew when new stock would be arriving? No idea if the story is true.
Cheers

Re: Maxtrax
Thanks ntpryce that is how I understood it but I was just not sure what learner52 was saying.Originally posted by ntpryceI think he means you can wedge the maxtrax under the front wheels so that they effectively set up at a 30-40 degree angle. And when you drive forward, the motion of the wheels pulls the maxtrax underneath the wheel and then lowers it level with the ground. They still need to be laid straight though, not at an angle sideways to the car.

Popped out on top of the sand then

Stuart
Excellent idea with the floor mats, I didnt even think of them, I have rubber mats as well. We all carry them but I am willing to bet not many people will use them. Cant have them getting dirty or ruined I guess. I am lucky in that I havent had to use anything till last weekend, now I have a set or Maxtrax so it will be easy if ever needed again.

Re: Maxtrax
I'd love a set, and they're definitely on my list of things to get. I frequent Stockton about every 4 - 6 weeks (more often during Summer), and although we rarely get bogged on there anymore, using something like this would be so much easier than snatching. We also take a lot of inexperienced drivers with us who usually wind up getting bogged a few times.
I've used my rubber floor mats a few times to get out of a really bad bog on Stockton. They work REALLY well, and so long as you don't give it to much of the right foot, it'll walk out without leaving a burnout on your rear passenger mat
We've used them in the Wattagans before as well in mud, but they're a lot harder to clean then, and they will scratch. But better than nothing!

Re: Maxtrax
Hey fellas
Your right in that they come in twos but four is more better.
If each car had two then there will be enough between all cars.
We used one under each wheel and drove straight out....awesome.
2 would get you out of the manure if you were by yourself but 4 would make life so much easier.....finances again Im afraid.
I would be game to hit the beach by myself without a worry with 4 of them.
Liked the way the traxs could be layed at an angle without having to dig ALL the sand away first. Popped out on top of the sand then.
Pete
