We had 4 Maxtrax that none of us had ever used before and I can tell you that we all will be buying a set as soon as the pay comes in. $300 or $60K drowned...hmmm not much of a choice.
So quoting $300 makes me think you only needed to use them two at a time. Is that correct?

I know they are available at ICON, I am just trying to find out if I can buy them cheaper. It seems that we pay through the nose for everything here because retailers are under the impression that everyone here is on vacation and makes money by the bucket load, how wrong!
The couple of retailers I spoke to from down under already told me that they do not ship overseas, my last resort would be somewhere in Asia if I can find them.
At these "mad" local price, I will only consider them if I plan on doing more offroading by myself, which would make them mandatory.
Thanks for the heads up.
Try Wil at http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/. He is the US distributor for MAXTRAX, a friend of PradoPoint, my best mate, and all around good guy. I will text him and let him know he now ships to Dubai.

That's how they're sold, groups of 2... 2 is good, 4 are better.

Your right in that they come in twos but four is more better.
If each car had two then there will be enough between all cars.
We used one under each wheel and drove straight out....awesome.
2 would get you out of the manure if you were by yourself but 4 would make life so much easier.....finances again Im afraid.
I would be game to hit the beach by myself without a worry with 4 of them.
Liked the way the traxs could be layed at an angle without having to dig ALL the sand away first. Popped out on top of the sand then.
I'd love a set, and they're definitely on my list of things to get. I frequent Stockton about every 4 - 6 weeks (more often during Summer), and although we rarely get bogged on there anymore, using something like this would be so much easier than snatching. We also take a lot of inexperienced drivers with us who usually wind up getting bogged a few times.
I've used my rubber floor mats a few times to get out of a really bad bog on Stockton. They work REALLY well, and so long as you don't give it to much of the right foot, it'll walk out without leaving a burnout on your rear passenger mat We've used them in the Wattagans before as well in mud, but they're a lot harder to clean then, and they will scratch. But better than nothing!
Excellent idea with the floor mats, I didnt even think of them, I have rubber mats as well. We all carry them but I am willing to bet not many people will use them. Cant have them getting dirty or ruined I guess. I am lucky in that I havent had to use anything till last weekend, now I have a set or Maxtrax so it will be easy if ever needed again.

Not sure I understand what you are saying here, I thought you put them directly in front of the tyre. :?:
I think he means you can wedge the maxtrax under the front wheels so that they effectively set up at a 30-40 degree angle. And when you drive forward, the motion of the wheels pulls the maxtrax underneath the wheel and then lowers it level with the ground. They still need to be laid straight though, not at an angle sideways to the car.

Was in a 4x4 place on Saturday and overheard some people asking about Maxtrax. Store guy said the factory had temporarily ceased production because the guy behind it all was in hospital????? Said that nobody knew when new stock would be arriving? No idea if the story is true.
I was passing UV4x4 at Enoggera last Friday and they did not have stock but was advised that they were expecting some in, they called me this morning and advised that they had received stock at both Enoggera and Brendale, so new stock seems to be coming in.
Cheers

thats it...still has to follow the direction of travel but doesnt have to be any where near flat or even level.
Made the trucks pop up like a jack in the box, very easy to use and brilliant when stuck.
