I Bought a set 2nd hand form the for sale forum here, brand spankers in a carry bag, I highly recomend the carry bag as it keeps all the crap out of the vehicle. Iwent across the Simpsom desert with 2 other vehicles the hard way (2 convoys of 6 & 8 vehicles & 1 group of 2 turned back because the dunes were to big & steep) let the tyres down to 15 psi & used the maxtrax about 4 times during the trip, made life so much easier & saved a lot of time digging, so more time for beers, mmmm buts thats another thread

Out prospecting the other week after some fairly decent rainfall. Came across a typical "creek" - almost a metre deep, about 1.5 metres across with a fairly steep entry and exit. There was no moving water but it was pure slop.
Dropped the maxtrax onto the flat mud section and simply drove across using them to prevent the wheels going down into the bog. You don't have to wait until you get stuck before you use them.
Worked a treat and christened the maxies in the process.

I am still debating these, I was finally able to find the guy in the US and someone who can bring them with him to where I live here, BUT for not that much cheaper than what I can buy them here to be honest. I would be saving about US $80.00 or so.
My "stucks" are in the sand, these won't help much if I am nestled on a crest with both ends hanging in the air But, I can see how I can use them if I am at the back end of the convoy, it would save a lot of time getting out of bowls if the angle is not too bad.
Just bought a set from the Canberra Home, Leisure, Caravan, 4WD and Camping Show from the ARB stand for $265. Off to Stockton on Friday to see if they work.
You would be suprised how handy they are when your stuck on a crest, works for me about 80 percent of the time
Got me off this one with out any trouble to the amazement of the many onlookers

I was helping a fellow Prado owner today in Lancelin and Maxtrax didn't work...hmmm just wondering if i/we were doing something wrong. Mind you he was stuck pretty damn well, we freed the back wheels a bit (there was still plenty of sand under the 'belly'), front wheels were spinning but i only had 1 pair of maxtrax. So this guy moves gently and sure enough maxtrax get drag under however the car didn't come out. He left bit of a burnout on maxtrax as well, just wondering if he was going too fast/too much to do for maxtrax? front wheels were spinning. In the end snatch strap + trax got the job done

If he left a bit of a burnout mark on the Maxtrax........ was the tyre pressure low enought 15psi?
Oldgrey guy, I put them under the back & reversed straight out, at 1st another prado tried to pull me forward, all that did was to bog the other prado, wouldnt be with out them.

My approach in the Simpson was to dig out the car first, as much as possible and particularly in front of the wheels, even lower than the wheel if possible. I then put the MAxtrax in the front so that they were wedged and then moved off without too much throtle. Out we came each time and with enough momentum to keep going. Stopped and went back to dig out the trax!
We started carrying two sets in each of our SES vehicles here as we have hundreds of kms of beaches etc within our area of coverage, since then we haven't used our winches, as litigation may rear it's ugly head with damage to winched or snatched vehicles plus the danger, we now have the option of handing the bogged people the maxtrax and they can self recover.
On buying the new truck the 1st things to go in were a set of maxtrax...
