Value for money - well each to their own. But I have 2x sets. Considering the cost of your vehicle and perhaps everything else - not that much extra really in the scheme of things. Less than 1 x tank of fuel.

One set = $270... how much are you paying for your fuel???

Maxtrax failed me the other week... I may need to get another set... and if they fail me again, they're goin on ebay!

180L at $1.50/L = $270.00 - and with fuel price rising... ah, you get the point I hope. :| Basically, given the total cost of the vehicle, accessories, contents, etc., the cost for one set of Maxtrax in comparison to the rest is a relatively small outlay. Perhaps I could have expressed it in other terms - around the same price as an extra spare tyre.

BTW, how did your Maxtrax fail you? What were the circumstances and how did you apply them? Like every recovery method/tool, none are 100% guaranteed.

Ah that's right the 120series has a 180lt tank... and $1.50 is still a little bit on the pricey side :wink:

How they failed me? They just didn't catch onto the tyres, but like you say, it's not a 100% recovery tool.

What happens when your in REALLY soft sand and maxtrax get you out from being bogged then you have to stop and get your matrix ? Do you get stuck again trying to take off from a standstill with no momentum ?

Don't stop until you reach harder ground.... or at least facing downhill...... yep, might mean a 50mtr walk :wink:

There was mention above of a good discount deal at discountcaraccessories.com.au - when I checked their website it is $274 including postage (so it's actually a $25 difference plus postage) - however the product pictured is the old model. They may sell the new model for the same price, maybe they just haven't updated the photo. I'll need to check when I get a chance to call them during business hours. This is a saving of well over $50 if you buy 2 sets so it's worth checking.

I can confirm the Maxtrax from dicountcaraccesories.com.au are the MK 11 model. I know because i have just recieved mine this morning :mrgreen:

I have heard it suggested that you tie the Maxtrax to the car so that you drag it with you when you drive out of the bog. It's probably best to do this when getting out of a deep mudhole. I've read somewhere where someone has lost a Maxtrax in a deep hole.

Yes amts... I watched a Ray Mears segment where he tied his "recovery boards" to the back when driving off n sand.

The longitudinal strength has been improved greatly with the re-design. Hence they can now act as a bridging devise.

Let the vehicle come to its own rolling stop, on sand try to avoid harsh braking. The Old Man always use to reverse up a bit after stopping on sand, therefore creating as small compacted pad infront of the wheels ready for take off. This usually worked in S.A. Mallee sand with 2WD utes.

Excellent. Thanks for that, still haven't found time to call them.

Since no-one here seems to be brave enough to buy and field test the Chinese knockoffs to share with the rest of us, and that I like to support Brad for his R&D and Aussie manufacturing, I will now order 2 sets of Maxtrax. Cheers all.
