  • Got my brackets back today. Here are the pics. Pretty happy with the result. As Amts said "better to over-engineer for longevity" This will give me quick n easy access to my maxtrax with plenty of room for my roof basket. Its only a 5 minute job to bolt the brackets onto the rack as they wont clear my garage door. (note to self when arriving home from a day out.....) Hopefully wont be too much of an issue with low branches, time will tell. (Click to enlarge)

      • Craig well done they look like what I need also. I have got the mounting pin set and aalso a roof basket. I have 4 maxtrax but looks like the steel you used would handle the weight of four ok. Are you taking orders?

        Cheers

          • Beautiful piece of work. Would have commented earlier if it wasn't for work blocking photo sharing sites.

            • Cheers for the positive comments Gents. A simple solution but I cant take the credit for the workmanship. I got one mate to weld up the plates and then pulled a favour off another to powder coat. I just drew it up with the support of people on this forum

At this point the brackets are a one off but if there is genuine interest, PM me and if there are a few requests, then I can put it to the lads to see what can be done...

              • If you made the brackets 40mm wide, they would also be suitable for those with HD bars mounted onto the factory rails.
I found this issue with the Oztrail awning brackets (and I guess other similar awnings as well). If the brackets were as wide as a HD bar, you wouldn't need to drill holes into the web of the HD bar, etc.

                • These brackets are 40mm x 5mm plate

                  • Good stuff. Wow! 5mm! It would still be holding its shape in a rollover.

                    • It was what was lying around at the time. yeah they're certainly not going to fold on me if I hit an overhanging tree. Most likely get ripped of the roof racks first!

                      • On the weekend I knocked up some brackets to hold my Maxtrax on the roof rack.I welded some flat bar and round bar to form the brackets then drilled them to bolt to the roof rack. The round bar is drill to take a lynch pin in each post for easy retaining and quick removeall if needed and for security if needed while having an ale after a day on Stocko remove a coulpe of lynch pins and replace with a pad lock

Currently using a bloody bike cable for security. Its a bit long so need to make a couple of wraps around the maxtrax to take up the length.
Not what you would call easy access.
i like your lynch pin attachments.

                          • Nice work Quicky. Great solution with the Posts and you have no issues with anyone fogging your maxtrax brackets and all. (unless they want walk down the street with the entire roof rack assembly...) I might get something similar made up for those day trips when I don't have the cage mounted as well. (might even be able to drive into the garage with them on unlike mine).

                            • Never got a chance to post a pic of the brackets all mounted up so here's one. Nice n quick to mount/remove the maxtrax. No noise at all. Very happy with them.
