That's a great find. Let's hope that the angle the camera is pointing at meets everyone's needs. There is a small risk that the camera is not pointing to where you want it to.

      Re: Reverse camera for Prado

We have the standard rear vision camera in our Grande but it is slightly offset to the left and so if you're using it as a wide-angle check of your surroundings to check there are no kids/animals/cars behind you then it's good but as a hitching aid it takes a little practice getting used to what you're seeing as your towbar comes in from the side each time and even the height of it in relation to the towball is a bit hit and miss (but it's usually close enough).

The dealer I bought my boat from has a Prado and he put a camera right above the towball and he says it's so easy to hitch on his own with it.

Just be aware that this is an NTSC output only camera, so make sure that your display can handle NTSC video.

Here is an Australian ebay listing for the same product. It's PAL/NTSC.

            Hi Guys,

Can these Cheap NTSC reverse cameras hook up to the 2003 Prado Grande Factory Sat Nav unit? I'd imagine they need to be modded as the satnav has a 4-5 pin plug for a reversing camera. I have contacted Toyota they quoted $336 for the Toyota part on a 2007 grande which is not garunteed to work on the 2003

            Cheers,
            Jesse

I will possibly be proved wrong by someone. The cameras do say for Toyota prado so one assumes they have the correct adaptors and voltages to work with the head unit and you can install a reverse camera into a Fujitsu -ten (OEM sat nav on grande),

I've just been down to Alpine store and spoken to one of the guys who has determined that I require a Mongoose connection to adapt from the reversing camera RCA to the back of the Prado Grande Factory fitted deck. He quoted me approximately $49 but they will not get stock till next week. He said I can use any reversing camera and If i can get one for like $18-$20 as apposed to $336, w I'm going to give it a go and I'll let you know how I get on.. Probably be a few weeks but keep an eye out!

FWIW, Alpine sell non specific Tojo units whereas Eclipse (Fujitsu- ten OEM sat nav manufacturers) and Mongoose sell Toyota specific units so you could consider one of these companies products instead? I guess the guy is just trying to sell his product but it makes sense re: getting the mongoose connection to make it all work!

So in your opinion you think that i'd be best sticking to say an eclipse or mongoose reversing camera unit also? I've found the eclipse camera to be quite limited. I was looking at the cameras in the store today and they are really quite cheap. I was concerned about the quality of the eBay products. I'm going to go back next week anyway and see what they recommend if I can get a full setup for under $150 I suppose it's worth it.

Sorry I don't know enough about all the range of cameras to pass judgement!! FWIW I got one of these some time ago when I bought a Hema tho not this price!
                      http://www.ja-gps.com.au/Navman/reversing-camera/

I'll be replacing the headunit now as I've run out of tapes to play (I'm that generation)..LOL! ..Just want to upgrade so its got a USB, MP3, B.T etc! Your budget/need may not allow/need this. I'll poss go the Dig options route, still researching it all.
I personally would buy specific units as you'd be able to take them out if you ever upgrade L.C Prado so put the tape unit back in etc??.. A R. Camera set up under $150 is good buying and def worth it IMHO. Hope it all works out..it's all budget dependable! Thx.

Thanks for your advice macaroon1! I think the reversing camera is a good investment.. Like I said I'll go In and check out the range and see what available! I can't really justify the replacement of the head unit at the point in time as it works perfectly and I have a Bluetooth kit installed connecting to my iPhone .. Ill let you know how I get on
                        Cheers

I bought one of these cameras and put it in and yes it's a great picture however because of the angle and I can't be adjusted it doesn't show far enough behind the car! I would like on that maybe has better distance but I can't be bothered changing it.

Camera installed and works a treat, to be fair it did take me a good 4 hours, the most troubling part trying to get the wires between the rear panels but overall very impressed! I did have to get the reverse trigger wire from Alberts though which was $30 but excellent camera and great vision at night also. The instructions on the lcool website were fantastic, very helpful!
