  • What's a good deal for a used genuine silver bullbar?

    Hey all,

I bought a 2009 Prado GXL in Charcoal Gray today pretty happy about it so far (actually it is my second after a 2004 model which I had to sell 6 months ago long story...).

Anyways, today this is my first post in this forum here and I have a question:
The Prado which I bought has no bullbar, but I'd like to get one and ideally it's the genuine silver one (just as my last Prado one had the same one as well and it looks pretty cool I find).
Now I had a look online and could find a few used ones but in good condition (from what you can see in the pics) from a 2009 model for $950 pickup in Brisbane (I'm from Sunshine Coast).
Surprisingly to me, I couldn't really find anything cheaper so I thought I'll ask you guys here whether this is an acceptable price or you know a place around Brisbane to get it cheaper?

    Any comments welcome! Thanks!

Just remember to factor in the extra cost of the recall brackets from toyota if it doesnt have them. If it does make sure all parts are there because you cant buy the bits separately.

      Thanks for the info!
It says "Comes with All Lights, Brackets & Fixing Bolts Etc", so I hope that's all included.
Would you say $950 is ok or generally too expensive and possible to get cheaper elsewhere?

That’s amazing, thanks for the pointer!
I‘m just wondering whether those brackets etc. wouldn’t be already on at the existing standard bumper?
Or are those bits extra ones which are special for the bullbar?

They are unique to the bullbar. no parts of the bumper are reused.

If the Sovereign bullbar you are looking at comes from a 2009 120 Prado, then it should have the recall brackets with it (but you must check yourself). But you must make sure that the chassis pins are included with it. Pretty much everyone leaves the chassis pins inside the chassis. Not only is it useful for the new buyer but it also means that the buyer won't have the chassis pins loose and rubbing on the side of the radiator and causing leaks later down the track.

If you intend to install a winch, then you need the genuine Toyota winch cradle as well.

I got quoted by Toyota the other day $600 for the recall brackets and $150 for the fitting kit. So if those bits are not included, your cheap bar doesn't work out so cheap.

                  Thanks for the answers!
I'm right at the moment at the bullbar, but tbh I can't figure out whether all bits and pieces are available.
Going through the items list of the Bullbar Fitting Instructions (Recall Update).pdf not all bolts etc. are there, but obviously the bullbar was dismanteled from a previous 120 2009 Prado and not everything was dismanteled from the bullbar itself.
I've attached pics from the bar and the bolts etc. which come with it, and it does not look like that important parts are missing, but I can't tell for sure.
If it is just some bolts which might be missing those are probably easy to get.
I know it's also for you impossible to tell from the pics attached, but if you could have a look and let me know what you think that would be great!

Thanks for the feedback. I was not brave enough to take it with me straight away. Now it's gone
The chassis pins were not provided, but I've called Toyota for the fitting kit and can get it for ~$150, which made it still a reasonable price.
                        Anyways, it's gone...

If anyone knows a genuine silver bullbar for sale, please let me know!

Be aware that the sovereign alloy bull bar can and do rattle apart and break brackets on corrugations so if you are thinking of this type of travel this bar may not be the best option. They are also a bugger to get and keep clean and shiny. I would be looking for a second hand steel bar- ARB, TJM, Iron man etc.

That's why they recalled the original brackets, the newer "recall" brackets as depicted above shouldn't have this issue. Combined with chassis pins, there shouldn't be any rattle.

There still is a rattel/failure potential because the whole shebang is made up of a number of bits bolted together. Some of them are a bugger to get to retighten and apply loktight to. No corrugations then no real issues other than cleaning. Mine broke the outlier brackets post recall.
