  • recovery points with toyota sovereign bull bar help

Hi all, My first post as Ive just purchased a 2008 gxl prado and was wondering how to fit recovery points to the front as I have an aluminum toyota bull bar ( soverign bull bar I think it is )
The bull bar seems to use one of the mounting holes that the recovery bracket Ive seen need to use, from previous discussion maybe the 150 recovery bracket will work or maybe another brand of recovery bracket ?
I realise that there is some thought that the prado anchor loops which are welded on both sides of the chassis are super strong and would suffice but if possible I would like to get some rated recovery brackets, once I work out how to fit them with the presence of the aluminum bull bar ?

Also the gap between the passenger side of the radiator and the chassis is about 7mm so a bolt head may rub on the radiator, not a good idea.

    Any help will be appreciated

images show the existing bull bar bracket attachment points with the hex bolt head in one spot required by the recovery bracket, plus the second hole above, which is lower due to the bull bar

You are correct the recovery point goes on the chassis where the Sovereign is also attached. The bolt head will be close to the radiator but won't touch it if correctly installed. You will find many posts about it when you do a search. The welded loops are not recovery points but I believe they have been used with the aid of an equaliser strap when there has been no other options (Although the loop you have does look a little different than on my 2004 which is straight and welded on the bottom of the chassis point).

I did this to my 2008 120. Roadsafe Recovery Points (pair) to suit Toyota Prado 150 SERIES. My mechanic gave me the idea. Better than the 120 version as the steel is not mounted a heap of washers as spacers to keep the bracket square.

Does AMTS still make recovery points for the 120?

So the recovery point just goes outside the bullbar bracket? That seems like a pretty easy solution without having to move anything.

Hi, I assume you did a bit of drilling also what was bolt length and also size it looks like you used stainless steel bolts.

Don't use SS bolts, they aren't high tensile. 304 or 316 are only slightly higher in tensile strength that a normal carbon steel bolt, about 2/3 tensile strength of a grade 8 bolt.
