  • Rear door sagging

Along the same lines as another post in this section:

    http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=13

My rear door is starting to clunk over bumps and when I close it slowly I can hear it scrape as the latch closes. My 120 is a November 2005 build. I would have thought it was one of the models with the new fixed door.

I'm hoping it's just an alignment issue, couldn't see any cracks when I had a quick look. Toyota are going to look at it when I take it in for my CV boot as per: http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=543

Anyone else still having rear door issues? (Sounds like a personal health question. ops:

    Happy trails,

    Drew.

mine scrapes a little when you close it, can see that the latch hitting if you stick your head in there as it shuts.

looks to have dropped around 3-4 mil.

no clunking though that i'm aware of?

Would be interested in hearing what Toyota say or do Drew.

Mine is around the same vintage as yours, so was hoping that I wouldn't have door problems. But I've been noticing a clunk lately too (from the left rear) - usually when off-road and descending down a step/rut or over a rock.

I can't work out if it's the rear door or perhaps the (Milford) cargo barrier yet. Guess I need to get a volunteer to travel in the back a short distance to verify it either way.

Like McBain - I can see that the door catch hits the nylon guide slightly as it shuts, but it's not a huge drop.

Before I take it to Toyota I might empty all the superfluous crap out of the back and get the missus to drive me down the lane while I sit in the back.

One of the advantages of living on a quiet country lane I guess.

I'll let you know how I get on,

look forward to hearing outcome of this... my initial thoughts are to just try re-allign the plastic bit that's hitting... i don't have the luxury of warranty!

I forgot to post the outcome.

Took it to Toyota and they adjusted the rear door - it doesn't hit the latch now. My my clunky rattle is still there - maybe it's not the door after all. I'll have to get off my arse and go for a ride in the back and have a close listen.

I had mine changed by toyota, they assessed the door and offered to pay half of the thousand odd dollars required, I had cracks, photo HERE . I actually had Extracare warranty and they paid for the whole door. I was hoping the new door, which you should have, would have overcome these problems. I'd love to hang my highlift and shovel on it, but it seems to struggle just with the weight of the door and tyre.

                Hi Blokeman,

In Spain, Toyota have a internal list of VIN Numbers to replace the rear door.

My Landcruiser it's inside this list, and a few months ago, Toyota replace it by other reinforced in this area.

                Ask your dealer about it...

                Regards,

Thanks for the photo Blokeman - I was wondering where the cracking occurred, so will keep an eye on mine.

I discovered what my "clunky rattle" was ... I keep the gooseneck for my towbar in the left hand side storage pocket in the cargo area. It's behind the cover and therefore out of sight and mind, but I hadn't tied it down.

So while I was quick to suspect the door, it turned out to be an easy fix ops:

                      Hi Steve,

That was one of the first things I checked - I keep my tow hitch in the same spot wrapped in a towel and tied down.

Thanks for the photos Blokeman - I didn't actually realise that's where they cracked. I thought it was on the hinges themselves. Something to watch out for.

I'm pretty sure my '120 is a November 2005 build so hopefully I'm safe.

                      Cheers,

                      Drew.

                        Embarrassed Drew. ops:

After reading this post I checked the tow hitch again. Yep it was loose and yep that was the source of my rattle. So it look like I'm off the hook for rear door woes for now.

                        Thanks again Steve,

                        Drew.

Remove spare wheel and have a look for the paint under plastic guard being rubbed. Found mine worn thru to metal so put some rubber stick-on strips under plastic and all knocking sounds have dissappeared.

(noticed it when changing a slashed tyre on track 100ks SE of Biloela )

How to adjust the rear door

                            Hi guys(and girls),

My car is a may 07 built and have noticed the rear door has dropped.i would rather fix it my self and know its done properly but i have a few questions that will help me with the job.
It looks like the door has only dropped about 3-5mm in total.and its starting to get hard to close.I have inspected around the area and found no cracks or sealer cracking, must be just the door settling it self into place.

Are the bolt holes elongated(oval shape) and if so witch ones do i need to undo and adjust, the hinge bolts on the body of car or the hinge bolts on the rear door of the car?

                            Any comments would be great.

                            Grid.

Just be careful with the torx screws on the striker, strip them and you are in the poo! I'd get the dealer to do it, if they strip them it will cost them a bundle!
