  • Crack cargo door and engine guard

    Hi,

I am looking to buy a used Prado 2008 Petrol version and had checked for known faults below:

    https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/...o-look-out-for

I inspected a car and found these 2 faults:

    Inner guard cracking
Crack on rear (cargo) door near hinges
Cargo door also sag a bit, the lock don't quite line up to the anchor point

Are they expensive to fix? Any rough price guidance?

    Thanks in advance!

Isn't it a known manufacture fault that would show up in any sample?

Yes and no. The harder the use the more likely it is to happen. With 120s there are thousands out there which have had an easy life and have never had those cracks. My 2005 VX 120 did a huge amount of outback work without problems BUT I was worried about the other issue which is petrol specific ie. the engine mount collapsing into the chassis rail. Fixing the 2 issues you have so far seen with this car will not be cheap and the one I mentioned is hard to spot. As I said there is plenty of choice out there . Walk away from this one and take your time to find one without the issues.

I ended up buying the car. The engine guard crack turns out to be excess grout. The crack on the rear cargo door, Toyota fixed it without cost. Wonder how I can check the engine mount?

How did you get Toyota to fix the door? Or was the car purchased at a Toyota dealer?

I purchased the car privately from the previous owner.

I just called a Toyota dealer about the crack and that it didn't close properly and followed their inspection / approval process.

Good work and all done under warranty? Did it have a full Toyota service history?
What did they do to fix it?

I don't think the previous owner has Toyota service history. They replaced the door. Yes, it's all done under warranty. I was pleasantly surprised.
