  • Repair Kit for Inner Guard Cracks

I have searched and searched but can't find the topic that lists the part numbers from amayama for the LHS inner guard repair kit for the prado 120. I now need to do mine after horrendous corrugations on the Anne Bedeall highway. CAn anyone give their advice and guidance please? Thanks

    Hi Subbo,

Read this thread; https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/...cement-options for repair options/part numbers etc. Make sure that the drivers side is checked as well as mine was cracked with no obvious external signs, look for cracks around the bonnet hinges, splits where the guards join the firewall and cracks in the bonnet (especially around the intercooler vent hole as I ended up replacing the bonnet as well....). Make sure the battery(ies) is attached to the radiator upper sub support to eliminate movement. AND, check the bodywork around the headlights as I had cracks in them too! The whole front of my Prado was an absolute mess!

Thanks Bazza, Have fully inspected passenger side of vehicle and can only find vertical crack just below fuse box. I reckon that the spot weld break of the bracket next to battery holding the fender on was the main culprit. This caused lots of vibration in the guard and something had to give. Have an off-road downunder battery tray on drivers side but will pull this and air box out to check further. I am assuming that the only reinforcement panels available for the 04 120 would be those for the FJ. Anyway, it seems that repair parts are no longer available for a 14 year old car. Will also look everywhere you suggested. PS The anne Bedeall highway west of Coober Pedy was the most corrugated I have ever seen or been on. Could not find a speed that seemed to comfort the truck. This is where the spot weld failed. Anyway, we got to EMU to see the atomic bomb site without fully blowing up teh underneath of the truck

I repaired mine in about April last year and all the fender patches were available from the usual suspects such as Toyota Australia, PartSouq, Amayama etc. I got three of the panels from PartSouq and one of the bracing panels through Toyota Australia (just give them the part numbers), but the panel had to come from Japan and took ages! The FJ panels are very different and don't fit! My suggestion is to remove the front passenger side guard though as the upper fender brace to the firewall is the culprit that cracks allowing the wheel arch to flex which in turn creates the splits in that! If you grab the front guard below the headlight (just above the bullbar) and lift upward, the guard will lift (flex) upward if the firewall brace is split. Again, mine was an extreme case........

Thanks Bazza. The front guard has a brace near the headlight that has a broken spot weld. I have put this down to the movement of the headlight and panel. I will take your advice and take off guard to check around the firewall. My crack is hopefully due to the failure of the front guard bracket weld. Will chase up toyota for the bracing panel. I can see reinforcement panels for the 1kd but note for the 1kz. Perhaps they are compatible.
