Does anyone know what solvent will allow me to remove the decals on the rear pillars easily? These are the ones that say "3000 Turbo Intercooler". Mine are badly crazed and look fairly crummy and I'd like to get them off. I'm trying white spirit first, haven't left it on there for long yet, but thought I'd ask here in case anyone knows something that is known to work, and won't damage the paint.
EDIT: well I've just about got one of them off. I don't know if the white spirit (or a bit of methylated spirits that I also tried) helped much, but I was able to get the black areas off by carefully working away at them with a thumbnail. But I discovered a couple of surprising (and irritating) things - first, the background part of the decal (originally clear I think) was MUCH harder to get off. I couldn't get a thumbnail under the edge of it at all, so ended up getting it off using a cutting compound and some serious rubbing. And second, it almost seems like the background has reacted somehow with the paint, so that where the black parts were looks sort of "raised" and the background areas look like shallow depressions in the paint, with darker marks where the crazing in the decal was. I might be able to get the marks out by more work with the cutting compound I guess. I was hoping to be able to do without decals, but I will have to replace these (and remove the other one of course) because it will be very obvious that there was something there. One of those jobs I wish I hadn't thought of!
