  • ABS Warning Light

After doing some water crossings I have the ABS warning light showing. The brakes are working okay. is it likely to be a sensor issue?

    Cheers

I had the ABS light come on and found it to be from a broken sensor wire on the front RHS wheel sensor. Must have a got a stick up there or something.
The brakes worked fine just no ABS to that wheel.

The sensors at the wheels have a connector that unclips easily from the wiring harness, maybe a spray with some wd40 in there might fixit for you.
Might have got some water in a connector.

You can use flash codes to identify exactly what the issue is , I'll try find the link , used the flash codes it helped heaps

I now have an ABS light issue. This only happens when the trailer is connected and once the brake pedal is applied the light comes on on the dash but will rest once the trailer is disconnect and ingnition turned off then on.

Now this has only just started to happen. All the lights on the trailer work correctly.

I just don't know where to start looking for the issue. I would assume the issue is with the trailer of flat pin plug but just not sure where to start.

I would start by looking for an Earth problem, any time car electrics do weird things this is a good place to start.

Perhaps a loose connection to one of the sensors. Have you had any panel beating done - or fitted a bull bar?

If so check the sensor plugs are pushed in all the way. They can be a bit stiff.

I had the ABS light come on and stay on today after snatching it out of a sandy bog. Turned off once I started driving a bit.
                  Should I be concerned?

Wouldn't be too concerned unless it (ABS light) stays on. If you're concerned , try slamming on the brakes and see if the ABS works. Just make sure no one is behind you.

I have had this happen twice in 2 weeks after going through water. The light went out once we put the Kaka back in high range. On the first occasion we had a diagnostic tool hooked up and there were a few codes which were cleared, that did not make the light go out however. On the most recent occasion I noticed the TRC Off indicator was also showing on the multi-function display above the Odometer. We didn't have a diagnostic tool with us the last time so don't know if any codes came up.

I have taken it in to Toyota twice only to be told there was no fault found. Now they are telling me this is the way it is supposed to work. The explanation given to me was that when you put it in low range it turns the traction control off and at the first loss of traction the ABS alarm will be triggered. Putting it back into high range supposedly turns the traction control back on and resets the light. I don't think this is correct but I'm no expert, interested in others opinions.
