Thanks to this thread I was somewhat prepared. The wreckers were asking around $600 for the pump alone but had none in stock. So I've ordered it online from the UAE for roughly $900 delivered.

It is insane that Toyota Australia is asking upwards $3000 for parts for a complete replacement when the rest of the assembly is fine. What's worse is, the more I look into this issue the more prevalent it seems; the US forums are riddled with issues with these assemblies for their 1GRFE's.

Luckily I've learned enough here to not get blindsided.

Same happened to me last night with a Grande 2004 4.0 160,000km. I removed the electric pump motor and found the same problem as OP with the brushes worn through the cummulator copper coating in a 25% section. I could get it working again as the copper coating isn't worn off completely but when the motor stops at the worn section it wont operate unless manually turned a little.

I found a USA seller of the motor only but still pretty high

The actual cost of the copper coating is less then $1 worth. Finding the motor supplier to Toyota would yield a far cheaper price. The search continues...

I personally would avoid getting a part such as that from the wreckers...brakes are pretty important.

The Amayama option looks like a much better option to me....I'm not sure if they list parts for the GD Prado yet, I'm having trouble seeing that model on their website, so hopefully I don't need to use them for a while....but plenty of other models are listed prior to the 150 Prado are listed, perhaps they just haven't updated their website for the more current model Prados?

The “abs” “VSC TRC” and “VSC OFF” lights are all on with a loud beeping noise, the brakes are rock hard and cannot seem to figure out how to fix it.

Attach a code reader and see what codes have been thrown.
