120 Grande front brake query

Got a persistent squeal from the front brakes. While investigating I found one of the spring retainers (the "W" shaped ones that go over the pins) wasn't clipped in, was held in by the pins but was loose. I clipped it back in, but it doesn't look right.

Can someone provide a pic or a link to what the front calipers should look like when bolted in place looking directly at the top of the caliper do I can see how the spring should look?

Google and forum search hasn't provided the goods

Thanks but this thread just doesn't capture the pic I need.

The pics on page 1 are not available (Photobucket) aside from the pic of the workshop manual there are no other pics of what I need.

The workshop manual pic shows I have what looks like the correct spring clips, but not installed.

Due to mine not being installed properly from previous owners mechanic I'd like a pic of them installed correctly just so I know that I have refitted them correctly

There it is, cheers.

It seems mine were in the right spot but not clipped in...

Will order a new set.

Got some copper grease for the pad backs and shims. Hopefully that helps with the squeal.

Driving us mad having brakes squeal and knowing that they are ok.

Yeah don't use copper grease, it's mineral oil based and will attack the caliper dust boots and seals. Get some Bendix ceramasil brake lubricant

I've been out of the game for a while now but copper grease was all we ever used at a certain dealership.

Since when has it been no good to use on brakes? Not being a smart arse really just curious.

It was something that was drilled into us at tech years ago not to use mineral oil based lubricant with hydraulic automotive brakes due to the use of natural rubber for the seals/boots etc.
But knowing how dodgy some dealers are..

Yeah ok.

One of my colleagues was/is a very knowledgeable mechanic and has hit the peak of Toyota's internal tech 'studies' (for lack of better term) known as master tech. He swore by copper grease, only reason I even knew about it in the first place.

Have used it on all my vehicles since and never had any issues, nor on any of our customer vehicles either.

Not saying you're wrong just that I've never experienced it and the teachings from that mechanic were, and still are from what I hear, taken as gospel so hard for me to change from that view.

As for dodgy dealers.... Well I've worked in dealerships and private workshops and I'd trust a dealer first. The privates were way dodgier than any dealer I ever worked in. It's the cost of a dealer that does most people in. Wanting it done cheap means you get the apprentice, wanting it done properly means you gotta dig deep.
