I've been noticing what I would describe as a "metalic hum", kinda like blowing across the top of a bottle, in the rear of the car. Most noticeable between 30 and 40km/hr. It has slowly been getting worse over the last month or so.
I have a 2008 GXL which has had a fairly brutal year travelling northern NT & WA for 3 months while being fairly loaded with gear and a considerable weighted camper. I also have 150 - 400kg OME springs. The noise didn't start until a few weeks after I returned.
Recently I had a professional assess the noise with a stethoscope while on the hoist. He believes (though not 100% sure) that the noise is the carrier bearing.
I'm hoping to find out whether any members have:
1. Experienced the same
2. If so, how you had it repaired and approximate cost.
I'm also considering an ARB locker in the rear.
Cheers.
Whooshka.
