hi guys. maybe a dumb question, but how would i put some Dr Tranny's anti shudder into the auto transmission 120 Prado? i am experiencing the common vibration at 65kms per hour, 1200rpm.
My mechanic has never come across it before. so i want to start eliminating all the causes that i have read about on here.
    cheers, oli

I just changed the ATF in the 5 speed auto myself in my 05 Prado for what I believed to be the first time in 225,000km. Changing into reverse & drive were mildly chomping at times & sometimes the engine revs would flare a little before changing from 1st into 2nd at a low speed. I bought the car a few months ago. I drive up a long steep mountain range 5 days a week so opted for the slightly thicker Penrite FS fluid to better cope with the tranny being worked harder each morning going up the hill & going down each afternoon in 2nd using the transmission to control the downward speed. I bought 16 litres of it expecting the existing fluid to be blacker than the inside of a coffin on a moonless night. When I dropped the first pan load it was very dark brown. After 8L of fluid was replaced the colour improved. At 13 litres it was getting bright red again. I used all 16L to get it to a decent enough bright red. The gear changes were so smooth & effortless afterward. The ATF flush is a more involved procedure than what it was in my previous 90 series.

For those wondering, when finalising the fluid level at the end of the job, do the following:
Deliberately overfill the tranny by at least 200ml when re-filling the last time. Up to 500ml to play it safe won’t hurt.
After refitting filler bolt, un-clip & loosen the RHS plastic kick plate on the driver’s side to get access to the white diagnostic panel.
Using a paper clip or very thin gauge wire, bridge the 4th port from left on the top row to the 5th port from the left on the bottom row. This is creating a short to put the car into service mode for the auto trans.
then start the car and shift the gears from P down to L (not too fast), and back up to N, the at a rate of 1 gear change per second roughly, shift from N to D and back to N, and keep repeating for 6 seconds approx until the red transmission light comes on briefly. When this happens shift to P and leave it there. The red light will disappear briefly.
that red trans light will reappear solid when the ATF has reached 40-41deg. This is your window of opportunity to remove the overflow plug with a 5mm Allen key. The temps with which the fluid level can be checked accurately is 40-45 deg I think, or 41-46 deg. Something like that.
Unscrew it fast being careful not to lose the washer in the drain tray. The ATF will pour out lightly & reduce to a trickle in no time. When it trickles refit the overflow plug & switch the car off.... Take for a test drive if need be.... Job done! Remove the wire used to short the diagnostics & re-clip kick plate back on.

If the car was pre-warmed up from a failed attempt for example such as the fluid level not being high enough & nothing coming out of the over flow, then you may run the risk of the ATF being too hot to check the level accurately. If the ATF is too hot the red trans light will flash on & off repeatedly & not be solid. If this has happened you’ll have to wait a little while with the car switched off before trying again.

The Penrite FS fluid was Penrite’s recommended fluid for the A750F transmission until they developed the LV fluid which is very close to bang on with Toyota’s WS fluid specs. The FS is close, but the LV is closer. Penrite don’t mention on the bottle any more that the FS is a substitute for the WS, but on their website where it’s more comprehensively explained, it’s mentioned that it is. It also says on their website that it has the friction properties of WS. The FS fluid is not a watery ATF at room temperature like Dexron 3 for example. It has a slightly thicker viscosity.
