  • Slight Vibration at Initial Take Off

    Hi All,

Just bought my first Prado. 2007 Petrol Auto and looking for some advice please. Previous owner appears to have never used low range (I believe him).

When I first start the car, then go to drive away, on any ground (level or hill) at a slow pace (I have't tried at a quick pace), after 1m or so, I get a slight vibration or perhaps sticktion may be a better description, at the rear. It only lasts for maybe 0.5-1m

It feels like it might be the right side, but hard to tell.

It does it whether I am heading straight, or turned.

If I drive up my driveway then stop, it will do it again after 1m or so. It happens at the end of my road (1km). But then doesn't appear to happen again for rest of trip. This makes me think it is related to low/bad oil in something (probably diff).

I plan to change all fluids in the coming weeks, just need to find time.

I did consider if it was diff binding. But don't think it is. I did get diff bind when I put car around back of house (gravel/grass) as I put it in Low range just to check it worked OK. When I got out of yard, back into H, and went to turn and got chatter on the rear right (was turning right) for about 1m before I stopped. I then spent time going backwards/forwards in a straight line, it eventually stopped.

I didn't notice this issue prior to the diff binding, however I had only driven it once prior to this.

Does anyone else have this issue? I just thought maybe its normal when diff oil cold or something.

    Cheers
    Chris

change yr diff oil as use the proper spec oil and see if it stops, sort the cheap stuff out 1st before u start stripping stuff
Some numpty had changed the diff oil in mine and used the wrong oil, also make sure ur drive shaft is adequately lubed up too

I used Penrite oils recently. No issues.

did diff/transfer last weekend and didn't help.

Greased unis today, and while all four off the ground I ran it forward/reverse in LR.

now the vibration is gone, so not sure which was the actual fix.

Only lasted a few days and came back. Will have to find time to regrease again. Either it needs more or it was a coincidence. I'm wondering if it could be the torque converter as well, so plan to flush it when I get time.

regrease didn't help. I've also done transmission fluid now.

Where should I try next? Replace Unis?

new tyres appears to have fixed it. The front were newer than rear, but both were barely legal, so I don't see how it made that...but there you go.
