  • D4D gearbox input shaft missing spigot and clutch woes

    Hi All,
Last year I replaced the cooked clutch on my Prado, the first thing I noticed was the input shaft on the gearbox did not have the spigot for the spigot bearing like almost every other clutch I have ever done, see photo.
I am a former mechanic and in 8 years (prior to 2001) I have never come across that before. Has anyone else noticed the same thing on the D4D 1KDFTV? I don't know the vehicle history I bought the car at 200,000Kms so I don't know what has been done in the past. It definitely hasn't been sheered or cut off. I am interested to know if this is how they are, the Toyota workshop manual shows a spigot bearing and all the clutch kits come with them so I am wondering if the gearbox had some work done and the input shaft was changed.

My other problem is the gearbox snout where the clutch release bearing slides is badly worn, I don't want the expense and hassle of replacing the front housing, there was an old thread talking about a sleeve and bearing kit from the USA, http://pdmusa1.com/ but they don't make one for the diesel. Has anyone done a sleeve on theirs?

    Cheers,
    Dan
