Hi, had a tyre slashed and needed to buy a tyre. When I measured the tyres I found that the front tyres are 1 cm dia smaller, no doubt because of the engine weight. This means that it goes at a higher rpm. Is my diff catering to it as in gear ratio difference in front and back diff or gearbox/transfer case? If not and if it is equal then should it not be better to put in a pair of new tyres in the front rather than the back? Or actually should we not always buy tyres in pairs and always put the new ones in the front? As the new tread will be thicker the sizes will match. This is for full time 4wd. If my front tyre is actually running a bit smaller then is most/all my traction going to the front?
