Hi have just broken down at bramwell with broken rear diff after going through palm creek. Nothing the car hasn’t done before in last 15y I’ve had it, so quite frustrating. It is a 2005 petrol vx, so no new or reconditioned diff, car has been sent home.
I didn’t think there was a potential problem but looks like a bit of chatter earlier 2007? that pinion and crown can flex causing issues with comments from using solid spacers to installing a rear locker to prevent happening again.
Just thought I would check if there has been any later thoughts on how to minimise chances of it reoccurring. I can’t see quite how a rear locker would strengthen it, apart from lest stress if engaged. (And first bang was going into palm creek so I wouldn’t had put in on if I had one)
also on a rear locker, does it interfere with the vx traction control or does that just check front wheels against front wheels etc.
thanks Michael
