I installed an HID conversion from http://www.delonixradar.com.au/ in WA about 4 years ago. No problems with the kit, it's been rock solid. Rubber boot fits ok, so no problems with water entry. Low beam is MUCH better, hi beam is a disappointment. Have had a few comments from other drivers about glare, even on low beam. Also, the reflectors are a bit discoloured near the bulbs - maybe heat or UV, I don't know.
I'm thinking about going back to conventional with upgraded bulbs.

Touché 😀
I have the narva plus 50 in mine. Wonder how long they will last? Good for around town, and when out bush the lightbar does the trick nicely

I've been down the track of HID kits, been using the Philip x-tremeVision H4 globes - but the globes seem to last only 12/18 months at $70 a pair. Back onto the original OE globes at the moment
Just came across new LED H4 hi low beam available

Have any PP members be using these yet?

That's for the kit only. Got quoted an additional $300 to fit them. Total fitted would be $750ish.

He was very responsive (got back to me in like 15mins last night), I am however still tossing and turning if it is worth $450ish plus a day of my life to fit them up VS $39 for some Narva 120s. Its a lot of money, big job to fit them and pretty risky. Hmmm... decisions decisions...

The difference between these and standard headlights is amazing. I don't see the point in upgrading the headlights to HID. You may as well get these 'legal' Xenon type lights for the suburban road, and use some HID spotties or normal spotties when out bush for additional vision.

Thanks for the HID Reflector Retro link Dave. Something else to put on the wish list...

Hi guys, I'm new to Prado and pp.
Firstly great forum! Lots of great info on here for the new Prado enthusiast!
I have just purchased a 04' GXL V6. Last week I received the first complaint from the wife about how bad the std Prado headlights are, she is used to driving a 08' Mitisubishi Evo X with factory HIDs. After trawling through the info on pp and elsewhere online, it is safe to say that HIDs in reflector type headlights is a big no no and even going down the route of purchasing complete aftermarket projector headlamps not a good idea either (http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...&daysprune=-1).
However, during my travels I did come across this small business in Newcastle called Micks Retro Fits. Seems that he is successfully modifying the std reflector headlights with great results. Hate to post a Patrol link on the pp forum, but this is the easiest way to show you his work (he has fitted some to a 90 series Prado about halfway down the link). http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/micks...trofits-90879/
The other option I found on here was the Narva plus 120 globes. Found them for $39 on ebay(http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290921936...84.m1438.l2649). I ll keep this in my back pocket if the HID route doesn't work out. I would much prefer HIDs having them on my other vehicle.
Anyway, I am going to contact him and get some $$$ and options. I'll be sure to report back here how I go. Anyone heard of him before? or has this been raised in the forum and I have just not come across it? Keen to hear any thoughts/opinions. I note that HIDs without headlight washers is illegal, however, if they are functioning correctly and not disrupting other drivers I am prepared to give it a go!
