I have a pioneer DVD player that has a wire for the reverse camera. It determines if the car is going forward or in reverse.the camera is ment to come on automatically in reverse and be able to turn on when the car is going forward. Does anyone know what color the reverse wire selector is and it's location. Also what colour is the reverse light wire?

Hey mate, I replied to this in your other thread, but your best is to always go directly to the tail light housing and grab power from there (since you need to power the camera as well.
Go directly from the bulb if you like. At the plug before it, the White/Black is your earth for the camera and I believe from memory Red/Green is your reverse wire... but don't quote me on this. What you can do though, is directly from the back of the light will be two wires. One of them is black from memory and thats your negative but the easiest thing to do is to check the remainder of the bulbs in the housing, they will all have one common wire colour (black I think) thats your negative, so the other wire at the reverse bulb MUST be positive.

Grab the reverse wire from the left hand side kick panel. Pics in this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ighlight=w602c

Keep in mind, you still need to get power down to the camera also... and ground. Given the sensitivity of the camera, I try to grab a power source as close to the camera as possible. Less length of wire... less chance of interference. Fair chance it will never happen, but hundreds of camera installs have just taught me a few lessons.

As long as you only want to use the camera whilst in reverse, I just pick up the reverse light power at the back.
That way, the camera is not powered on all the time. I think this may be the reason my last cam failed as it was powered anytime the ignition was on - it just stopped working for no reason. No damage, just dead.2008 D4D M6 GXL [MT ATZ-P3][Whitey's Ironman 45710FE/45682FE+KTFR101H/Dob487][extended Roadsafe links][Polyairs][DBA T3/T2][amts diffdrop & recovery points][Tin175's stone guards][Bushskins BashPlate][ARB Sahara][IPF 900s][Snorkel][WindCheetah][MaxTrax][IC-440][Parrot Asteroid][ARB Fridge][Lifestyle 2nd Row Fridge Mount][ARB Compressor][Thumper][SandGrabbers][Cargo Barrier][Tigerz Awning][MCC Rear Bar]

If you power the reverse wire that way to get the camera working while driving, then won't the reverse lights come on?
Probably should wire an independant switchable power for the camera if you want to be able to run it when driving...2008 D4D M6 GXL [MT ATZ-P3][Whitey's Ironman 45710FE/45682FE+KTFR101H/Dob487][extended Roadsafe links][Polyairs][DBA T3/T2][amts diffdrop & recovery points][Tin175's stone guards][Bushskins BashPlate][ARB Sahara][IPF 900s][Snorkel][WindCheetah][MaxTrax][IC-440][Parrot Asteroid][ARB Fridge][Lifestyle 2nd Row Fridge Mount][ARB Compressor][Thumper][SandGrabbers][Cargo Barrier][Tigerz Awning][MCC Rear Bar]

You have a few options mate....
A. Leave the reverse wire hooked upto the headunit but supply an ignition feed to the camera itself. This will automatically pull in the camera when switching to reverse and allow you to view the camera through the headunit anytime the ignition is on. I personally don't like leaving cameras powered on like that. I've just seen them after a couple of years due to constant power on. Who knows? You might not run into that issue. This is definetly the most "automatic" way of doing it.
B. Leave the camera attached to the reverse wiring, but add in a switch like this...

or

Run a switched power feed down to the reverse camera power wire BUT add a diode in between the reverse light wire and the reverse camera wire. By doing so, if you put it in reverse, the lights come on, camera comes on and headunit flicks to camera view. But, if you flick the switch, lights stay off, camera comes on and headunit flicks to reverse mode.
Here is a very very very very very very crude and rudimentary drawing of what I mean... If choosing this path, make sure you pay attention to the direction of the diode.... silver band towards the camera. Accidentally reverse it and when you flick the switch, the camera will work but your reverse lights come on and camera won't work with transmission in reverse. A diode is like a one way valve.
