  • Fuses and issues they can cause

Arrived in Charleville yesterday at about 2pm. Set up the camper and strated to drive out for a sight see. Suddenly noticed to air, no indicators, no scan gauge and engine warning light on.

Called in RACQ via NRMA and the mechanic arrived within 30 minutes He plugged in his diagnostic tool but it cold read the system.

Started checking fuses under bonnet. No luck but under dash IGN2 was blown. The car would start though. Replaced and all system up. He cleared the engine error code. He said that nowadays manufactures don't fuse every item but piggy back so this one also handled cruise control, aircon, reversing light and indicators.

Now how is anyone to know that?

I now have to get to the bottom ofvwhy thefuse blew. Because today after a 300 km drive from Charleville to Blackall and unhitching and setting up the camper as bout to drive off it happened again. Easy to replace the fuse but what is causing it?

      Any ideas?

Start with the usual suspect. Pull your trailer plug apart and have a good look underneath. Loaded is ok, unloaded blows? Something hitting rear suspension.

Check post in 150 electrical from a day or 2 ago about stop light fuses blowing. Possible problem with the trailer plug end or the other end where it all plugs into the car's wiring?

            Hi all,
I know this is a very old post. But I'm having issues with my 2000 Toyota Prado.
The Gauge fuse keeps blowing when changing gear from park.car is fine in idle but as soon as I change gears it blows.
I am losing the whole dash, outside blinkers and Aircon. Head lights and Breaks are still working. Any ideas if there is another fuse causing this to happen?
            Thanks.

Only when you move it from Park? or other gears too? What happens if you start it in Neutral? And go to Say D? If the problem doesnt reproduce when you do this it would be something to do with a trigger from the park circuit.

Off top of my head the only things I can think of from there, might be Gauge sa election display on dash? Perhaps a shorted bulb on a display indicator causing it? Shift lock? Eg: Foot on the brake pedal when moving from Park.. Key Lock to hold key in, until its in park? Not sure what else may trigger.

You could try removing the console, unplugging the gear lever electrical connector and see if issue reproduces?
